Default Can the PS3 connect to the internet via air card??

I'm thinking about getting a lap top and Best Buy has a pretty good deal on a compaq if you purchase an air card and internet service with Verizon. Could I use the same air card to connect my PS3??

Maybe he means a USB transceiver.

I actually wanted to ask about that too, since I have a spare 802.11n transceiver, and it would be sweet if I could get that working on my PS3 (which is connected via CAT-6 cable right now).

no i believe you have to install software on it for those aircards to work but you could buy a router that has USB ports on it. it will work that way.

i could be wrong though if anyone has done this before.

My understanding is you can, but you would have to connect the air card to the laptop and then connect the PS3 to the laptop via ethernet cable.

I'm going to guess the connection is terrible. I know we have people here at work that use Aircards and the connection speeds and reliability are very hit or miss. I sure wouldn't want to rely on an Aircard for online gaming.

Hmmm, well I have a co worker who purchased the same setup and he says that his connection is every bit as fast as his cable connection. Of course he doesn't have a PS3 so I wouldn't know if the same would be the case.

Not entirely true, you can do it through the laptop to PS3:

First, you need an ethernet cord and of course an aircard. connect one end of the the ethernet cable to your playstation and the other to your laptop.

View your network connections (control panel-->network and internet connections-->network connections).

Right click on your aircard connection and click properties.

On the aircard properties window click the advanced tab. on the tab there will be a box asking if you want to let others connect to this connection. check in that box. below there will be a box asking what the home networking connection is. Put **Local Area Connection** in the box.

Last make sure firewall is turned off.

On your playstation go to network connections and click easy and go from there. (dont try to put in IP adress or anything just let the playstation do it all automaticly).

Connection will not be nearly as good as stardard DSL or Cable though. you may run into to some lag issues

if you hook the air card to your laptop that already has a wireless card or could use your empty network plug-in, you might be able to create an ad-hoc network and the PS3 will connect to that.

Just make sure its a cross over cable, the regular ethernet cable won't work and even with the crossover, I can download the demos, but they never install. I guess the files get corrupted due to the slow speed. I have 3g wirless on my pc, and so far thats as close as I have got.
