Default LED backlights

I am considering putting up those led backlights for behind your display. Has anyone put them up recently and what are they called? Also anyone know where to find any deals on these right now? Thanks.

Cyron LED Media Highlighter System (2x15") are the ones I recently bought, and yes you can get them fairly cheap on amazon right now.

Additionally, they're VERY cool.

+1 .....I have had the same system with an additional 2 15" lightbars for 3 weeks now and they were worth every penny. Got em on Amazon too, and if you look around, you may even find this set even cheaper. I love the look and all my buddies last night while watching the Super Bowl thought they were really cool too....go for it!

They light up the wall behind the TV.
Some white, others do colors.

dioders from ikea for $50 you can also find them on ebay

http://www.ikea.com/us/en/catalog/products/20119418

or you can make you own if you just want white light. get a fluorescent light fixture (any length) 18" or 24" will be plenty though and just buy a 6500k bulb to go in it. you can get this setup from lowes or home depot for about $20, then just use velcro to adhere it to the back of the tv.

I've been looking into this lately as well. There's a very long thread on the subject of white backlighting (called bias lighting) here. From what I've read it seems the 6500K white lighting provides the best effect for TV viewing, but may not look as cool to you as colored lighting.

Most of them are subtle enough that you often forget they are even there.

I am thinking about getting the Cyron LED system. I have a 50" Kuro. Do you think getting the system with the 9" bars, plus two more extension light bars would work? It seems like this would be less expensive than getting the 15" light bar system. I know the 9" is for televisions that are 32" or less, but I thought with four of them instead of two it might work. Anyone have experience doing it this way?

So how do they mount to the back of the tv and do they require a power plug or do they tap into the tv's power? I am trying to get an idea of what all i will need to plan for if i get a set.

I picked up the Cyron LED 6-pack last week and made a post about them. I love them very very much.

View that post right here!

BTW - I also have the dioders for Ikea. They are in my TV stand. They are not very bright so I wouldn't suggest them unless your TV is wall mounted and, even then, I don't think they worth it for the price.

I can't say about the different colored setups. With the 6500K white setups, the idea is that there is ambient light in the room, but since it's behind the TV, it can't cast any glare on the screen. It's also recommended to be at a particular brightness in relation to the screen. The idea is with the constant light level, your eyes don't have to work as hard to view movies - less dilation and contraction between light and dark scenes - and this means less eye fatigue. Many people have reported it eliminates headaches they would often suffer after watching more than one movie in a darkened room. The other benefits are improved perception of blacks and color levels. This is only a perceived improvement, but the general idea is that if you think it looks better, then it does look better.

The most highly regarded kit I've come across is the Ideal-Lume kits that can be bought here. These kits have their own power supply, and are made so that the light level output can be adjusted appropriately to your particular screen. They come with hardware to attach the lights to your TV, and also with stick-on velcro. Most people it seems use the velcro.

Too bad Philips doesn't make their ambilight tv's anymore for the U.S. market. I have a 37" ambilight system and I love it, my buddies actually say it makes watching the tv easier on the eyes.

I have the Cyron Lightbars and they are awesome and easy to set up. It is not distracting and enhances the movie viewing experience in my opinion! You could take a look at my pics, if you like. Enjoy your new house as well!
