no sound from rear speakers issue

just bought a new system and put it all together and only half of my speakers are working. now this is the first one i've bought and put together but i'm certain i've assembled everything correctly. i ran the set up assistant and it produced the harmonic noises through each of my speakers during the test, but when i attempt to use my blu ray player or xbox, i only get sound through the center and front left/right. is there a step i've missed somewhere to get sound through all my speakers?!

receiver denon avr s740r
center klipsch r52c
front left and right klipsch r41m
subwoofer klipsch r100sw
rear left and right klipsch r41m

It may be set on a preset sound field. Are all 5 speakers lit up on the display? I don't have denon, but try hitting Music and Movie buttons on remote or the receiver itself

yes all five are showing, i've been watching a few youtube videos to try to figure out what the issue it is. i'm hoping it's not some compatibility issue with the speakers and receiver

I like mine. Obviously an equalizer will help. I cant say its going to get you the sound you want but, Im happy with the speakers/sound for the money.

I suggest you check the manuals for you blu ray player and your game for a setting that needs to be changed.

Is your Blu-ray Player and xbox set to bitstream in the audio setup?

I'd be sure to check how you connected those speakers on the rear panel of your avr they may not be connected properly i.e connecting your rears to rear surround(7.1)and not surround (5.1)

agreed, I was about to post that the OP should take a picture of the rear connections on the receiver (if possible) so we could check for that.
