Feeding sound from a PS3 into a home theatre?

You'll want to list what your "Home Theater" consists of, such as the brand and model of receiver, speakers, etc.

How you connect your PS3 to your system will be limited by the connections you have available.

Do you have a receiver? If so, what kind?

Could you be a little more specific ? You should use HDMI cables if possible, then you have to figure out if your receiver decodes the new audio formats or if you want the PS3 to decode (i think most people use that option). What exactly do you need help with?

I've heard I need an optical connection. Not sure what model the theatre is, looks like a 5.1 Bose set up to me.

PS3 cannot bitstream the HD audio codecs over hdmi, setting the hdmi audio output to lpcm is the only way to enjoy hd audio with a ps3.

Optical with be able to bitstream the legacy DD and DTS surround tracks to your receiver.

If it has an hdmi connection check whether or not it is passthrough or can accept audio over hdmi. If the latter, then you can set the ps3 to LPCM and experience all your hd audio glory. If the former, an optical connection would be required.

Hopefully your receiver has HDMI In and out? If so

PS3 ---HDMI---> Receiver -----HDMI ----> TV

Set your PS3 to PCM audio output since you can't bitstream from a PS3.
