Default Favorite John Goodman films (appreciation thread)

I was watching an average film last night (Love the Coopers) and it just reminded me of just how good of an actor John Goodman is!

Here are Den of geeks favorites:

http://www.denofgeek.com/us/movies/j...-goodman-roles

I wish I could list them all but here are a few of my favorite John Goodman performances:

  • The Big Lebowski
  • O Brother, Where Art Thou?
  • Monsters Inc/University (voice of Sully)
  • Barton Fink
  • Raising Arizona
  • The Gambler
  • Flight
  • 10 Cloverfield Lane

Feel free to share favorite scenes, films or anything John Goodman!

His performance in 10 Cloverfield Lane was perfection.

I love John Goodman but most of his performances have something of a 'one-trick pony' feel to them. Don't get me wrong, it's an awfully good trick but it makes it hard to pick standout performances when they're all so similar.

That said, he was exceptionally good in Lebowski and Speed Racer.

Barton Fink, Argo, 10 Cloverfield Lane

He's a cool guy and a solid actor but overrated imo.

I thought he was great in the HBO series Treme.

Of course his most iconic role is Dan Conner from Roseanne.

He's an incredible actor. In my opinion even in the smallest of scenes he's fantastic. Revenge of the Nerds comes to mind. Also thought he was great in The Babe.

This ^^^^

Like I said in the OP- I was watching Love the Coopers which is just an average film at best but there was a scene in the bathroom with his granddaughter in which he was just incredible. He can do just about anything in my mind.

One of my favorite quotes from him was something to the effect of 'you know things are out of hand when you have to lose weight to play Babe Ruth'.

10 Cloverfield. As soon as
[Show spoiler]his character died
the movie got a lot less interesting.

So true! I loved the first two thirds of the movie but hated the last one third.

I always thought it was because the introduction of the
[Show spoiler]Aliens/Monsters
but it more likely was the absence of John Goodman.

Another great movie. The guy could do it all - silly comedy, dark comedy, thriller, sci fi.
