I recently purchased a samsung lna750 tv and was impressed by the product. For years everyone told me lcds were better especially for image retention. Against my better judgment I didn't do research and trusted everyone and bought the tv. Now after talking to tech savvy individuals I can now say that was dumb move. I have learned LCDs have inferior blacks and motion blur. I started looking at plasmas and learned that for even cheaper than the lna750 I could have gotten a tv with way superior image. I just felt I was suckered into an inferior product and it sucks. Everyone tells me the lna750 has great blacks for an lcd tv. But thats like saying you are a very intelligent retard.

![]() Sorry about your predicament. I'd put the TV up for sale on Craig's list. It's a very good LCD set, and if you discount it slightly from brand new, you should still get most of your $$ back. At the very least, you should get enough $$ to buy a comparably-sized plasma that will give you an exceptionally better picture. Look at the Kuros that are being clearanced these days. Now's the time to buy one. Good luck and keep us posted. And welcome to the forum! |

The Sammy 750 is certainly not a bottom-of-the-line television. Have you had the picture calibrated? Chances are, the factory picture settings are causing two things to happen. One, the backlighting level may be set too high, which can "gray" out some of the black. Two, if the contrast, brightness, or other aspects of your TV's picture are incorrectly set, you can lose considerable shadow and black level detail due to a phenomenon often referred to as "crushing blacks," as well as other forms of image-deterioration. There's so much more to a great 1080p picture than the increase in pixel density. There's a lot of good detail in those pixels that factory-preset picture settings can prevent you from seeing.
That said, factory picture settings are great when TVs are lined up together on the highly competitive, brightly lit showroom floor, and the most "vivid" looking TV displays tend to be judged as "better" by the unwary customers. A nicely calibrated set may not look as "bright" or "saturated" as a factory set picture, but taking the time to note the more natural color (such as skin tones), appropriate contrasts and much better image detail can make you forget about the "factory" has pre-set for you. You may be surprised to know that skilled calibration (whether by you or a professional) of an LCD flat panel can, and likely will, dramatically improve the picture quality, and may save you the trouble of regretting your purchase. True, most plasmas will exhibit better blacks than LCDs, but a decently calibrated LCD will be a substantial improvement. All HDTVs, no matter what the type, benefit from some form of calibration. |

Before you send it back get it calibrated either by a professional or by purchasing the Digital Video Essentials HD Basic Blu-ray disc and calibrate yourself. You should see the difference in black levels when this is done. Also, don't trust what you see on the showroom floor as all the TV's are adjusted to give the appearance of a great picture based on the lighting.

But just for kicks, maybe mess around with your settings and see if you can improve the picture. Backlight should be set to about 4 and brightness around 45. I found these to be pretty good on my sammy lcd. |

KEEP THE TV AND BE HAPPY WITH IT. This is a good tv, lcd's are not inferior like you make them out to be. There are defiently advantages to an lcd over plasma, and vica versa. Dont do this to yourself, there will always be better than what you bought no matter what it is, just be happy with what you have or you will drive yourself nuts.

I feel your pain. I went through a few LCD's only to realize that true blacks and overall picture quality was harder to obtain with LCD's unless you pay a premium price which is why I ultimately ended up with a plasma for my main TV. Its only 768p, but its WAAAAYYY better than my 1080p LCD. However, you have one of the best LCD's on the market. The Sony Bravia XBR6 is about even with it, and LED backlit LCD's are the only ones that top it. I would say try THESE settings from CNET and see what you think. They are calibrated settings for dark room viewing. I think it will greatly improve your thoughts on that set.

Excellent choice and a top-of-the-line picture (I'm holding out for the 58" V-series later this year). You may try calling Amazon and see if they would be willing to accept your return (without the box) if you agree to purchase the Pany from them. It's worth a shot. If not, Graig's list. I doubt the 750 would take very long to sell if you price it ~85-90% of what folks can get it for at a store.

If he doesn't like it, well he doesn't like it and he will never truly be happy with it.
I love my Samsung LCD and not one person on this planet will ever make me switch to a plasma, seen too many plasma at friends places that just look too darn horrible. If you are happy with your TV everything will be alright but if there is something disturbing you about it well then make a change to something you feel you will be happy with. But don't change it because you hear everyone else telling you that the plasma are better, change it because you feel in your eyes they are better. |

I think you should keep it.
Remember when you thought it was what you wanted? New displays will come out every year and they will try to look better than the last. LCD is my least favorite display type but I was at a friends the other day and his looked fantastic and there are some big advantages to LCD as well. =Brian |
