Hey everyone,
Over the next few weeks I am going to be doing adding some new lighting and in-wall/in-ceiling speakers to the entertainment area of our condo. Some of the work will be done by me and some of it will be done by contractors. The majority of the work will consist of some new lighting and running speaker wire through the walls for in-wall/in-ceiling surround and back surround speakers. Here is a picture of what I am planning: The speaker locations are shown in red. ![]() The left and right surround speakers will be round in-ceiling type. Their placement (relative to the primary listening position) is about 2 ft. behind and 3 ft. to either side. The back surround speakers will be rectangular and are being placed primarily for music listening since 7.1 is so rare. Placement in the corners of the room was a compromise, but it was what I could get my wife to agree on. I am open to your thoughts and opinions on the speaker placement. For reference, this is how my "home theater" currently looks: ![]() The above mentioned work would turn my current 3.1 setup into a full 7.1 system. Thanks guys! I look forward to hearing your thoughts. Last edited by DavidAg02; 03-29-2009 at 11:59 PM. |

I think you would be fine with that kind of setup, just make sure the speakers are directional so you can play around with where they are aimed. Sonance is a great company for in-wall, but also a bit pricey. Hard to tell from the picture, but would the surrounds be to your immediate left and right if seated on the couch? Placing the surround in that said location would probably be ideal, or just slightly behind your couch is case you ever decide to move it back abit. That's the only thing about in wall, the permanent location of the speakers makes me nervous.

The surround speakers have to go in ceiling while the back surrounds can go in the wall. |

Are these the speakers you are using?
http://www.thespeakercompany.com/PTI...er-P90C11.aspx $60/speaker is a great price, and I like that they have their own back boxes. Looks like a winner... How was the install? |
