Default What movies are underappreciated?

As in they never got the attention or praise they deserved.

My list:
Imitation of Life
Life
Last of the Dogmen
Taps

Children of Men, Dark City, and Let The Right One In.

This are reviewed well, but people won't necessarily watch them because they don't have big explosions.

How is 'underappreciated' defined? Low box office return?

Not sure whether these would be too mainstream to qualify, but i'd go with the following as great movies that went largely unheralded: Dark City, K19 Widowmaker, Dead Ringers, Blow, Mosquito Coast.

I loved Mosquito Coast. That movie stayed with me for days afterwards.

I meant to say that movies which never got the attention they deserved. Those that were mostly ignored, but shouldn't have been.

The 2007 sci-fi thriller Sunshine cost about $40 million to make, but only gained $30 million back at the box office. It had nearly no US box office promotion. I think that with more promotion, it would have been much more successful.

Relatively speaking, Batman Begins.

In general, The Cable Guy.

Relative to that other Batman movie.

Still, $200+ million and #84 alltime is still pretty appreciated! lol. Had it been significantly less appreciated, we wouldn't have TDK.

I kept waiting for Pee Wee to snap and kill somebody he had a very sinister look a lot haha. Oh right now I know where I put that old VHS of mine.......it's in the basement of the Alamo!!

great expectations (1998)
-charming first half
-2nd half has been criticized for its lack of souls, i still think it was intentional, reflecting the then-current art world in new york

crash (1996)
-a much better film than the 2002 film of the same title
-the 2002 one is just a bunch of scenes reflecting some of the most stereotypical characters on earth
-the 1996 one is deep

alien 3
-director's cut
-need i say more

Batman & Robin, without that (well I like it) suckfest, Warner probably would've kept putting out campy Batmans and we wouldn't have Nolan's masterpieces.

I would say most comedies are under appreciated. Strange Wilderness for instance I thought was hilarious.

True, I would consider Knocked Up to be one of the top 20 movies of all-time.
