This question is one that I have wondered the answer to for quite a while. Turns out, it was somewhat difficult to find an answer. Although I never did find an official answer, what I did find satisfied my curiosity.
Basically, the reason new DVDs, CDs and Video Games are released on Tuesdays is that rental figures and music charts are released on Mondays. It only makes sense that the studios/game companies/record companies would make their releases the next day, allowing a full week to maximize the numbers that are posted the following monday. That's the reason I found, I GUESS it makes sense. ![]() |

I heard that it has to do with Tuesday (and the middle of the week generally) being the slowest day for most brick and mortar stores. So if they release new stuff, people will come by and maybe buy more than just a new blu-ray...
I could be wrong. |

New movies in the theater are released on Thrusday so people will go to the movies on the weekend. Videos are probably on Tuesday so they don't take away revenue from movies in theaters on the weekend. And Tuesday's are probably one of the slowest days for movie rentals so they try to boost that as well.
If videos were released just before the weekend, many would be watching those instead of going to the theater. |

If you pre-order from Amazon, they arrive on a Thursday. Which is just like being released on a Tuesday. Its all a bit relative though. If you do NOT order or purchase any given BD(s) which is/are due for a release on a Tuesday, it will seem like nothing has been released that particular Tuesday, which may ease the monotony of the usual Tuesday release schedules. Hope this helps....
