Default Copy protected game saves....

If I do the full backup of the system with the 'Backup Utility', does it also copy the Game Saves for games like Street Fighter IV, Heavy Rain and NCAA 10 which won't let you copy the saves to a thumbdrive?

If not I'm gonna be pissed, because I have my 500 gig HD coming to swap out in my PS3 Slim, and I'd like to not have to start over on Heavy Rain and NCAA

If you can't copy them, I guess you're screwed.

Yeah (you should be fine), the backup utility copies everything and will restore everything.

If it's being restored to the same system, you're good. Elsewise, you're boned.

Yep, it takes care of everything as long as you restore to the same system.

But you have to remove them from the previous system.

so before I put the new one in, I should reformat the old one (after backing it up obviously) so I can restore the gamesaves?

BTW: how do I deactivate my account on this hard drive?

your account is tied to the system not the hard drive but if information such as credit card info you're worried about then simply format the drive

I'm not sure what he means. All I did when upgrading my hard drive was do a backup using the backup utility and then did a restore with the new hard drive in place. All protected game saves in place and everything was just like the other drive except more space with the new drive. A very simple procedure.

When you use the utility, you will be automatically removing those files from the old drive. You won't have to do anything extra. For those of us with more than one PS3, though, it's still a PITA.

As long as the hard drive is the only piece of hardware being changed withint the PS3, you will be fine using the back-up utility.

I had problems with my saves using the back-up utility after sending my PS3 to Sony for repairs. The system I got back had something else changed inside of it and therefore wouldn't let me restore the protected game saves. But, with only a hard drive swap you will be 100 % fine.

Just do the Backup I also backup my regular game saves on a ThumbDrive but yea Copy protected saves will copy from the backup but only when you restore it back to that same System (it might work if you copy it to the same PS3 model that it was backup from but I haven't tried that yet but I know for sure you can't go PS3 Fatty to PS3 Slim). No need to deactivate your account your only changing HDDs you only need to deactivate your system if your selling it or exchanging it on a warranty etc.
