I have a Z,
I'm a tech who HATES 120hz enhancement and thinks it's obnoxious and reduces the film quality of the movie. I know they are different things entirely, but would anyone else just rather have the 120hz off(or on standard) on their set and set 24p on on their players? I think this yields the perfect PQ without the distracting "ghosting" that I see in EVERY 120hz set when this setting is jacked up. |

For a lot of TV's, you should have the motion enhancer off to correctly refresh at 120hz, thus producing true 1080/24p. The 120 hz alone is not what is distorting the picture, it is the motion enhancer setting. The TV has to not only accept a 24p signal, but display it as well, to get the full benefit, which I'm sure you know as a tech. Your TV will correctly refresh at 120hz and display the movie as intended at 1080/24p only when motion enhancer is off.
By the way, what I would like to see are the response time's increased to under 4ms, now that would be impressive for an LCD. Last edited by Fors*; 04-01-2009 at 03:11 PM. |

I am with you. I also do not like the 120hz feature because like you I feel it ruins the quality of the movie itself. I also feel its not worth the extra cash for what I call an extra novelty or feature. I have my Blu Ray player set to 24p and the film quality is excellent and my tv is only 60hz not the 120hz that so many others want and have. That all being said I know the Sony Z HDTV you have is an excellent model because I have seen it first hand. ![]() |

You're a 'tech' that needs to learn about the technology.
![]() 120Hz is the refresh rate of your set. It is not able to be adjusted or turned on/off. You are describing the motion enhancing technology on some of today's higher-end LCDs, and I agree, this makes film-based material look awful. |

Ok 120hz is the panel....youre right....
so without all the "I'm smarter than you cause I sit online at night all the time reading forums"... I mistyped. Thank you for those who responded to the question and knew what I meant, to the others, I just feel sorry that you wasted your time reading it and had to "teach" me what the 120hz on the panel was. and BTW, I said "120hz enhancement"...whatever Sony's Motion Flow or what ever brand you have for it, it's garbage. This ENHANCEMENT is obnoxious and I was wondering if anyone shared the same feelings. What a great first post... |
