Default Quantum of Solace - HDMI only?

I have a 9 year old 38" tube HDTV that has been great. Great quality but only component connections. I have one of the original Blu Ray players, the Samsung BD-P1000. I just updated my firmware to the most recent update and Quantum of Solace still won't play. It gives me a message that HDMI connection is required. Does this mean this is one of the first Blu Ray DVD's that are not allowing component connection to keep us from copying the DVD via the component connections?

Question

First of all Welcome to the forum. Are you using an AVR or do you connect the blu ray player directly to the TV? I have had to update AVR's and TV's and players from the get go. We have an expensive hobby. You know you could use this as a good excuse to get a NEW TV !

It doesn't need hdmi, I tried using the VGA out of my laptop to my projector and whilst it didn't look as good as when I used HDMI out, it played just fine.

I would venture a guess that the problem is more than likely related to the BD-P1000. Samsung has been notoriously bad about getting firmware updates out in a timely fashion. The most recent update may well not be recent enough.

Just major nitpicking but it's Blu-ray Disc no Blu-ray DVD.

Default HDMI Only?

I go through a component switcher. I have an Apple TV and a Dish HD DVR as well. Yea, my equipment is old. I got into all this pretty early. I love the CRT HD screen. The Plasma and LCD monitors are just now catching up to it's quality. I'll probably hang onto it until it it gives up the ghost.

Just curious if the movie studios are making the switch to HDMI only output for Blu Ray. I thought maybe this is the first Blu Ray with no component output. The HDMI has good copy protection. Right now I can copy movies via my component connection into Final Cut Pro in 1080i via a Kona video card. I know the movie companies don't want this happening.

I used component to watch Quantum Of Solace. Component to the projector and HDMI to the receiver, for sound.
