Default Price of a game vs. Price of a blu

i'm curious on what others think of this.

there are a LOT of people on here always saying "i'll wait till it's down to $10, $12, $15 before i pick this up" when they are talking about blu's.

does anyone feel the same way about games???

i for one can't bring myself to pay $60 for a video game.....i sold my ps2 last night and had some games to trade in as well, and still couldn't bring myself to buying Assassin's Creed 2 for $60 @ gamestop.

i did pick up the GOW HD Collection @ a discount b/c of my trade in's though.....finally popped my trophy cherry last night!!!

does anyone else wait for games to drop in price before buying them??? and if u don't mind paying full price for games, why is that different than blu's??

Movies... you likely have already seen, and just want to see them again, no interaction.. roughly 2-3 hours of entertainment.

Games - never seen before, have to interact to see more, and generally speaking 8+ hours of entertainment and in some cases over 100 hours of entertainment. Not to mention replay value with multiplayer games.

Movies aren't worth $60. Games are when you consider time of entertainment gained in comparison to time spent being entertained by a movie.

Some people feel that movies aren't worth full price, just like some people feel certain games aren't worth full price. Not sure what the miss is here?

I think it's safe to say EVERYONE will wait for a price drop on something that doesn't utterly fascinate them but is curious enough to keep an eye on in case the price drops to a value worth the product to them. The phrase, "I'd like that, but I'm not paying $x for it..." comes to mind.

don't think there's a difference

i was only getting @ the fact that i never seem to see people saying they'll wait for the price on a game to drop before buying it.

like they don't question that a game is worth $60 but a movie isn't worth $15.

esp. something like Assassin's Creed 2 or Arkham Asylum....where guys play the game, beat it in a week, and sell it on here for $40.

You can usually find a game at release or shortly after release for less than $60. I've bought probably ten new releases over the past few months and haven't paid $59.99 for any of them. In fact several I played through and sold for more than they cost.

(One key is to not buy games at Gamestop )

Its the same reason why people pay full price to see a movie at the movie theatre when it first comes out.

With video games the only option is to buy new or try to rent it. There are a lot of people here that rent games.

gamestop is terrible!!! it's only 1 of 2 stores in my area that takes games in on trade and the other place had the same prices!!!

i would've considered a used copy of Uncharted: Drake's Fortune there last night but it was the greatest hits version...used....and it was still $29.99!!!

i could've sworn greatest hits were $29.99 brand new??

i signed up for gamefly for all games that i wont pay full price for, it works great for me, ill pay $60 for games i really want to own, like when god of war 3 and MAG come out, but $20 a month for games i want to play then get rid of is only like buying 4 games at full price for the whole year, and ill go through probably 4 a month at least, so its definitely worth the price

I have no problem paying full price for a game I really want.... God of War III And to be honest, most good games don't go on sale until a sequel is released. The price didn't drop on Uncharted: Drake's Fortune until Among Thieves was released. Mostly the crappy games go on sale really quick, unless you find some holiday sales or something.

Face it -- Some Games are worth WAITING for price drops!

In the case of Uncharted 2, and Naughty Dog's stellar effort -- U2 is worth EVERY penny!

I generally dont pay full price wait till its on sale unless its a game i really want.

IE mw2 i payed going rate.
Also wanted Dragon age but not for $69.99 picked it up last week $39.99.
We dont have any places that sell used games by me other than blockbusters but again there used price sometimes is only 1-2$ difference from new.

Its not that i dont think there worth 60-70 so much just i cant justify spending that, I come from the old Amstrad CPC464 days where you could get 1.99 and 2.99 games and a expensive one was 10.

Moves i wont by if there more than $20.00 unless box set just dont think there worth it. I like waiting for the 2 for 30$ pre viewed BB ones.

I've never payed full price for a game, I usually wait for a sale on gohastings.com or try to get it on eBay for cheap. You save so much money that way. I just bought Tomb Raider and Bioshock for $25 shipped

I'll pre-order games if the price is REALLY good, and if there's some sort of pre-order bonus I want (like a gift card, or DLC incentive). Otherwise, it always pays to wait, IME.

I felt sorta burned on Ratchet & Clank: CIT because I pre-ordered from Gamestop for $60, and a week after release it was $39 on Amazon and I hadn't even opened my copy yet (too busy w/ work). The pre-order DLC didn't interest me, so I could have gotten it from anywhere, really.

So while I really want to play Darksiders and am salivating at Heavy Rain, I think I'll wait on both of those until they're >$45 or so. Otherwise, there's no other games I want until March.

Like most people have already mentioned, I'll only pay full price for the absolute MUST owns, IMO. Of the 12 PS3 games I own, I've paid full "release day" price for one of them. Uncharted 2.

I find it's best to stay about a year behind the new releases in the interest of my bank account.

My cost to play a game is generally cheaper for my cost to buy a movie. The reason being that I simply sell most of my games when I am done with them. With Batman:AA I actually made a profit to play that game thanks to all of Toys R Us's promotions and then having a high trade-in value. On average I only pay $10 to play a game but many times I can figure out how to break even. This is with buying games on release day too.

I paid $36 (each) for COD MW2, Fallout 3 GOTY and Uncharted 2. All on release day for each game. I can easily sell all 3 of those for around $40 each.

I usually wait a bit, then you can find a brand new sealed decent game for 9.99! Like I did for Soul Calibur IV earlier this year when Best Buy had that great 9.99 sale! Actually I took the BB ad to Sears and got it for $6.34 + tax after PM and 110 of the difference!

I just rent with Gamefly. Yearly average is about $7 a game. I keep a few at the discounted price, like MW2 which I know I'll play a lot of. I could never justify full price, especially on games that I'll play through once or twice and never touch again, no matter how good they were.

I think games are overpriced nowadays (most of them anyways) at $59.99 . I wait until the are on sale to buy. I just don't have the time like I used to have to play.

I wait for games to drop in price all the time. I held off getting inFamous when it was released and recently got it for less than £15 Don't like the silver case though (it's a 'platinum' release so I guess it's supposed to be technically platinum in colour). Will be doing the same for Arkham Asylum too.

I am with you on this one, especially the silver case. Games may be worth the full price, but if it is half price then I can get two. I have BFBC2 on pre order as the first is so dam addictive, but this will be the only game I will pay full price for next year.

No, I dont want to pay $60 and I dont think I will. Even the $45 I paid on discount is a lot of money for a video game. The game I've spent the most time with is Fat Princess and I paid $15 for it. Second is Okami for the Wii which was $25. For Xmas I asked for Devil May Cry which is $20.

There's no real reason to sell most games at $60, or even $50. Some never drop in price (Mario Galaxy, Zelda). I am looking forward to super street fighter iv, which seems very reasonably priced at launch.
