Default Your ISP is spying on you....

Seems like several ISPs are cooperating with the RIAA in order to stop piracy...I have nothing to hide by any means but I'm not sure how comfortable I am with this.

Not cool...also not surprising. If you're concerned about this, get this program called PeerGuardian. It's a (free) tool for blocking your IP address. I have it for my PCs at home. It works well and runs in the background with minimal overhead.

Not surprising. They ahve the power to do it and it's probably there in the fine end user agreement that they can do whatever they want. I mean you are accessing through their lines.

Yeah...I know that its in the Patriot Act that it gives the government the right to view/monitor all Internet Chat Room (IMs) conversations.

Also, I think that you may have posted this article in the wrong Forum, let alone section, lol.

So instead of getting sued you just get warned? And if you get caught stealing again then you're in danger of being kicked off their thing?

Yeah, didn't really know where to put this ... we really need an 'Off-Topic' list on this forum where we can discuss our failed marriages and inadequacies though

I use it, and it's great. It hogs a lot of space on the hard drive though.

This is definitely not cool, it is an invasion of privacy. At the same time, I am not surprised that this is occurring. Privacy will soon be a thing of the past.

This is nothing new on RIAA's part. Years ago, I downloaded a movie that I owned but the DVD had been scratched up. I didn't feel like purchasing it again at the time because it was the middle of the night. The next morning I had a message when I logged in that I had to call my ISP. They told me that the MPAA had notified them that I was downloading something and that I had 2 more strikes before I was black listed. It's a very effective means of stopping P2P, but not piracy. Like everybody else said, it just gets people to go online and find the products in different ways.

I also completely agree with Toefer that there are more reasons then to get something for free to pirate. I'd go so far as to add my reason as well, I'm sure that there are people that previously owned a game/CD that damaged it or lost it, and just download it instead of buying it. Also availability drove piracy before iTunes. Once something was out of print, it was easier to download it then to try to hunt it down at used CD stores. This goes for computer games too. I can't find a copy of say King's Quest 2 in a store, but I can easily find it online for free.

comcast has alot to lose, they lose customers to the satellite industry everyday, they arent alienating anymore than they have to. I thanks them for that as I get ripped of monthly for my cable bill
