Thumbs up Memorex MVBD2511 Firmware-Finally!

After seeing the previous post about the 2510's new firmware update, I checked Memorex's site, and saw that a firmware update was finally available for the 2511. I downloaded it and flashed my player's firmware. Before I get in to the results, I'll tell you about the problems I originally encountered. I bought the player last year for $148 from Walmart.com. Free shipping with the "site to store" option. I connected it to my TV by HDMI. A few blu's played fine, but I ran into problems with Hancock and Dark Knight. During playback, the screen would go all snowy for 10 to 30 seconds at a time. Sometimes it would stop on it's own, sometimes I would have to unplug the HDMI and plug it back in to get the screen to return to normal. I went out and bought an expensive "rocketfish" HDMI from Bestbuy, thinking that would fix the problem, but it didn't. So, I ended up buying a set of component cables and ditched the HDMI. (The tv was only 1080i, so there wasn't a difference in picture quality, but now I had to use a separate set of cables for audio, too.) Switching to the component cables fixed my problem.

Now, on to my results of the firmware update. I removed the component and audio cables and reconnected my original $15 walmart HDMI cable. I then attempted to watch Hancock. The movie loaded quicker (under a minute) and the menus and remote commands were also quicker and more responsive, too. I only had 1 "glitch" during playback: At 1hr,3mins the screen froze for 10 seconds and then jumped to the "special features" menu. I used the scene selection menu to return to where I was when it froze, and the rest of the movie played fine. No more "snowy screens".The picture quality was great, and it was a great movie too, if you haven't seen it. I will try out the Dark Knight when I have some time. Hope this helps some of you with this player.
