Anyone got the Johnny Depp film DEAD MAN that's come out in France?
Any details would be appreciated...forced subs..region coded etc.?

I just watched DEAD MAN this weekend on my LGBH200 Code Free Player. The black and white cinematogrphy was stunning in high-defintion and Neil Young's guitar score was very clear and distinct with a nice Dolby 2.0 soundtrack. The only problem is the original English track has French subtitles which aren't removable. The subtitles are white (I hate yellow subtitles) and unobtrusive so they are easily ignored. This will probably never be released on Blu-ray in the US so it's worth seeing in BD!
I also have REQUIEM FOR A DREAM and Coen Brothers THE BARBER (aka THE MAN WHO WASN'T THERE) from France on Blu-Ray and they also have the French subtitles on the English language track. The Kronos Quartet score on REQUIEM just kicks butt in 5.1 DTS HD!

Thanks for the comments folks.Bit disappointed about the unremovable subs (why do they do this?!!!!) but sounds like its still worth a buy.

I think the BDs look and sound fantastic (as we'd expect) and the small subtitles are very unobtrusive. I'm not a big fan of extras so these bare bones discs are perfect for my collection: I just want the film in all its high definition glory

If there were US dates then I would hesitate to pull the trigger on the French releases but I doubt if many Jarmusch films are in the works.

I'm pretty confident that this will eventually be released for Region A. It's probably his most "famous" film and you've got Johnny Depp in the lead and Neil Young doing the score, with a ton of other great actors in bit parts. Maybe i'm just being optimistic for once in my life.
