Default B&M Stores (especially my BB) and Amazon

I was at Best Buy last night talking about a problem with my TV with an employee and we walked past one of the best BD promo displays ive ever seen. Nice big 1080p crystal clear TV, displaying BD, with the BD logo plastered all over and a shelf of at least 30 titles, the looked like they had actually been being bought too. I turned to my left and what do i see another huge cart/shelf full of blu-rays. I figured HD DVD was on the next side, NOPE, DVDs!. I asked the employee how Blu-ray was selling. He was just kind of like, "eh all right i guess." I was kind of disappointed that they wern't flying off shelves, but i figured he could be a HD DVD fanboy. So i asked if HD DVD was selling well. He gave me this look and laugh like "are you kidding me??" and then gave an emphatic No. My whole time there i didn't even see an HD DVD case, but im sure they are there somewhere probably by movies, but certainly not in a nice spot. Anyways to go on, there is no way that BBwas carrying as many HD DVDs as BDs. In fact I have yet to see a store in the St. Louis area carry more HD DVDs than BDs. My mall has 3 stores with BD, 1 with HD DVD, the one that does carry both formats has a 2:1 favor with BD. All 3 walmarts that I got to have much more shelf space and stock for BD and then Best Buy just put the icing on the cake last night as far as my thinking that HD DVD just isn't selling in B&M stores very well. As this continues and HD DVD gets less and less shelf space I would expect higher numbers on sites like amazon. expect flame and FUD from these idiot as they try to make it sound like HD DVD is "catching up". Also all these stupid firesales are just proof that Toshiba is very desperate and the fact that even during these firesales that BD is outselling HD DVD is just more proof that BD will reign supreme. No matter how much the DUD fan boys want to spike and make inconsitant data online, they can't dodge the Nielsen numbers everyweek and they can't dodge the fact that the only place that HD DVD has even a slight chance of competing against BD is America. Sorry for the length just kind of wanted to write about how great blu-ray is.

The reason for this is that BB, and other retailers are charging 20%, possibly more, over what people can buy them online for. When you add in the fact that buying them online, primariliy you are not paying sales tax on them as well. Until B&M stores lower their prices to compete with those online, they will just sit there on the shelf.

This talk that they might try and impose a sales tax on the Internet must never be. Pray that it doesn't happen.

As it is, online owns B&M hands down.

I wouldn't say "hands down". Fry's Electronics had Weeds - Season One for $19.99 plus tax ($21.19 total). Amazon has it priced at $19.95 but S & H is $5 for orders under $25 (I believe it's for under a $25 purchase). A lot of Fry's titles are usually no more than $2 over Amazon.com. Plus, I have the title in my hands at the time of purchase.

I think it's going to happen. It's just a matter of time. Canadians are paying sales tax on their online purchases.

So don't be surprised if they start doing thet same with American online stores. The thing is, the online stores generate billions in sales every year, maybe more. So they are missing out on a lot of sales tax right there.

So... I wouldn't be surprised if it'll happen.

Sadly, I'd say almost nothing would surprise me anymore.

That doesn't mean I won't try to do everything I can to fight it and then be very angry if it ends up happening anyways.

My local BB has recently doubled the size of its Blu-ray section. Its now twice the size of the HD-DVD section and there are no HD-DVD players to be found.

it's great if local merchants carry the product you want. if not, you have to purchase from other locales

This is very true. Most of their movies are sold at retail price (34.99) and 99.99 for Planet Earth (screw that!) Although I must say the BB by me (theres 3) have the same amount of HD-DUDS as Blu-ray. Kind of dissapointed by my best buys, but im sure theyll come around. Right now each has their own half shelf section. I will say this though. Every single HDTV in the store is hooked up to a Blu-ray player (sony model...NICE!) and they look fantastic. Kinda makes you wanna steal a tv....i mean....buy...buy a tv...
