Have yet to see this show; probably will check it out when the first season arrives on Blu Ray in a month or so.

Can someone please give me an overview on the pace/feel of the show? Compare it to another show or film that is out already? Is it a soap opera with vampires, or more action, or what?

Vampires feeding on humans, sex, other associated drama, humans getting high on vampire blood, humans dating vampires, a vampire sub culture that came out in the open with the drink "True Blood" (a blood substitute).

I think that's the basics.

I thought it was a wig he wore? How long before True Blood was he in Generation Kill, because his hair was cropped down, and those where both 2008 and only aired a couple months apart. So unless they filmed GK like a year before they made True Blood I'd have to assume he at least had extensions.

Sookie Stackhouse (Anna Paquin) and Bill Compton (Steven Moyer) are dating in real life this should be realy good for the chemistry for the two characters i just hope things dont go south when they break up season 1 was close to the first book few changes and added characters and there are 9 books out come may so hope we get a lot of seasons out of this show

My wife is a vampire book freak and has read basically everything in the genre. She ordered HBO about a month back specifically to see this show (i was thinking about the Pacific ). Anyways we started about 4 episodes into the season and mostly i caught glimpses of the first several shows while playing poker on my computer. At first i was very meh. It seemed to rely too much on sex and the heavy redneck vibe. I'm also used to shows on HBO with much higher production values (deadwood, carnivale, BOB), so some of the cheesy special effects seemed out of place and over the top. But once i started really watching and understanding all the interpersonal relationships, i was hooked. It's now our little Saturday night ritual and i look forward to it every week. Every episode seems to end "cliffhanger" style as well, which only adds to the anticipation. To sum up, it's not groundbreaking cinema, but it's hella entertaining, and yes, it's got eye candy for the ladies and fellas alike.
It is basically a soap opera with Vampires though.
