hey guys,
I came across this article on the Internet http://www.cnn.com/2009/SHOWBIZ/Movi...acy/index.html it is about the wolverine movie being leaked on the internet for viewers. The movie is scheduled for release on may 1st. Now I am no fan of film piracy, it is in a way stealing someone else's hard work, as a matter of fact it is true. Piracy is a serious issue that is contributing to Box Office slump, I came across this link to see the serious consequences of piracy and thought I should share it with you guys. http://portal.unesco.org/culture/en/...f/piracy_e.pdf Now let me know what are your thoughts about this serious matter? Not necessarily. When I was in High School a workprint of Mortal Kombat floated around before it came out in the cinemas on VHS.

VHS greatly limited the ability of anything to spread, because nothing was more than about 4 generations from the master before it became unwatchable.
The most popular anime fansubs of all time were estimated to have spawned less than 5000 copies, and that was with multiple master-level SVHS tapes in existance. Today, many shows will reach a quarter million copies in 24 hours |

Whenever there is a new BD out in the US, you can always find HD digital download (BT) version on the net (private tracker site) at the same day! You just need bigger hard-drives and some time to download free HD movies. There are also more and more pirated BD out in China, selling for $8usd per disc.

I would really like piracy to go away but the electronics manufacturers are profiting from it more than anyone else.
The only reason DVDr's are so popular is because of movie piracy. Sure some of you might use them for pics or whatever, but most people want to put a disc in a DVD player and watch the movie. So, until the electronics manufacturers put movies on a format that a PC cannot read its a waste of time discussing it. The truth about the movie business is that its pretty much funded by fans of movies. Its no longer funded by the people on the street because they have their ways and means of getting it free. Most of the world feel movies are well well overpriced, the actors get too much money so why have a conscience? I'm sure if Keanu Reeves doesn't get his $60m in 5 year deal on something people will get the violins out. Game programmers have it even worse, they are 9-5 workers yet they get no recognition for it. Most of them are hardly rich either. |

I believe anyone who is caught Pirating movies should be prosecuted to the full extent of the law. It is wrong. It adds to the cost of Blu-rays.
And no, this Pirate King does not Pirate anything. The name is taken from the musical "Pirates of Penzance." There are always going to be those who cheat and steal. May God have mercy on them.... because I wont. |

I don't get why someone would want to see a movie on their PC recorded on a cam in theater, sound is terrible, the PQ sucks like no end. No thanks for me.
I would rather pay and see it and later get myself a nice BD and just enjoy it the proper way. |

Simple, they get Screener copies, DVD rips, Workprints. It's the exact same quality as a standard DVD for all of those, so you don't have terrible PQ or AQ. Cams are rare after the first week of the movie being in a theater.

i download copies of movies to play on my ipod, but only movies i already own, i think it is rediculous that for a movie i already own one, and in some cases of double dipping BD and DVD, two copies of the same movie, i should have to pay for a third copy of the same movie to play it on my ipod, i think all new movies being released should come with a digital copy

Shouldn't media outlets be downplaying this story? I wonder how many people reading the article went and downloaded it.
I did, I don't recommend watching it that way but now I don't plan on seeing it in theatres because... well, it doesn't seem worth it. |
