Yes, I played them separately as they came out. For games based on a webcomic, they're actually quite good. Granted, you have to like Penny-Arcade's humor, and the humor does get rather base at times, but it's all written by Tycho and it shows (for good and ill). You play as a character you name and design, and you can import it into the second episode.
The actual gameplay is essentially a turn-based jrpg, except with a faster pace than normal. It's vaguely similar to FFXIII, except you control all three party members. You can block attacks, but the timing is very sensitive and most enemy's attack animations are designed to throw off your timing. I'd recommend it; I've actually recommended it to people looking for a jrpg for the PS3 despite the origins since decent real jrpgs for the system are so incredibly rare. |
