How to tell best quality Blue Ray before I buy

Folks, I'm brand new to Blueray.com and the blueray experience. A quick question about quality of blueray movies. Below is a recent post similar to my question. It appears some blueray movies are much better than others. I have Casino Royale and it's fantastic. But I just bought Superman Returns and it's very fuzzy. I've also rented The Italian Job from Blockbuster and it's terrible. How can I tell whether the movie will be best quality? I'm assuming that movies shot in 1080p will be better than older movies converted to
1080p, but I would have assumed Superman Returns would have been shot in 1080p. What are things to look for on the back of the movie case? Since I already opened Superman, I'm afraid Best Buy won't let me take it back. Don't want that to happen again. Any direction you can give would be great. Thanks much.

Crank is probably the best one I have..
Kingdom Of Heaven, Departed, Into The Blue (holy Jessica Alba) and Shooter are a few I can think of off the top of my head.

Obviously the kids animations like Chicken Little and Open Season are amazing in 1080p..

I think Donnie Brasco, and Remeber the titans look Fantastic. Best Reference disc I own has gotta be Final Fantasy and Casino Royale. Best Audio Kingdom of heaven definently. I personally think Superman Returns is the only blu ray disc I have been dissappointed in picture quality.

you're going to have read the reviews for PQ in the movie section if you want to know.

the prestige, kingdom of heaven, black hawk down, layer cake are movies that i own and have found them to have some of the best PQ.

Superman is supposed to have a soft look to match the Geoffrey Unsworth style of the first 2

The age or origin of the movie has no bearing on the quality, since 35mm film has well over 1080p resolution

well here your going to get different opinions I for one like the way the directors did 300 and payback and some other movies, but right off the bat probly POTC 1 & 2 , Superman, Patriot , DejaVu (amazing)... and alot of others almost everone (over 100) that I own are stunning compared to there dvd, vhs counterparts... Its all based on preference most people feel how the way it was made is how it should stay, others think everything should like POTC... its just all about preference. I for one only found one that I wasnt over the top thrilled with which was lethal weapon 2( which still looked good)...
