Default New Releases That Don't Start Off With A Blu-Ray Release...

Hello...

...I was wondering if a new movie gets released to DVD but does not have a Blu-Ray release, is it a pretty good indication that it either won't, or that it won't for a really long time?

I ask because I wanted to get that "Dead Silence" movie. It's being released in June on DVD and HD-DVD, but not Blu-Ray. I still want the movie, so I'll buy it on DVD if the Blu-Ray release will never be happening (or if I'll have to wait forever for it)...

...I just can't imagine that with a brand new movie, they wouldn't want to release it in the most formats available at its initial release. And then if they don't do that, I can't imagine why they'd ever prioritize doing that in the near future.

Am I way off-base here?

Thanks for the help!!!

Oh, really? I didn't know certain companies weren't jumping on the Blu-Ray bandwagon. That sucks!...

...So, I'm best off just purchasing it as a standard widescreen DVD then, right? Or, does my Blu-Ray player also play HD-DVDs? (I'm using a PS3 for my Blu-Ray player).

Are other companies (like Universal, for instance) planning on joining up with Blu-Ray technology anytime soon, or has that not been talked about at all?...

Thanks for the quick reply!

Your PS3 will only play DVDs and Blu-ray movies, it will NOT play HDDVD's. Right now Universal and Weinstein are the only HDDVD exclusive companies. If they were to go format-neutral (release on both Blu-ray and HDDVD) it would probably end the format war, since there would be no HDDVD exclusives.

Use the search function to find out more about universal studios.

first, please search in the future. these topics are discussed ad nauseum. however, blu-ray has the support of every major studio except for universal. sony, fox, mgm, and disney are 100% exclusive. paramount and warner are neutral (both formats) and universal is exclusive.

Buy the DVD, in all honesty, the PS3 upscaling it should make it look as good as the HD-DVD..

Okay, not really, but what I'm saying is, if you want the movie, get it on DVD, and know that one day it WILL be on Blu-Ray because those little studios that don't have any clue or insight as to how things are really going down will have to give in one day.

In the mean time, enjoy the dozens of titles HD-DVD wished they had = )

Ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha....not laughing at you, laughing at the fact that anyone could thinks Warner is neutral, and there is no way that Fox is exclusive since they don't release anything now, 3 new Fox titles out on DVD (Pathfinder, Reno:911 and Epic Movie) and not one of them out for BR.

You know, some of your posts around here...you really do a hell of a good HD-DVD fanboy impersonation when you feel like it.

At the very least, you have that annoying troll aura going down pat.

That's a clever way to try and sneak in some FUD too, something you've also done before in previous posts.

Bravo!

i guess things like eragon, night at the museum and a few others dont count as new? epic movie was garbage. no idea what pathfinder is. reno:911 would be hilarious. yes, they didn't have day and date releases (assuming these really were released... haven't checked). but these aren't films that would exemplify a hi-def format. it's just FUD material to say that fox isn't exclusive. if you can provide real evidence, we're all ears. don't troll

I give, what it is to me, my honest opinion, do I believe that BR should win because of studio support...yes, do I believe that the reduced price of the Toshiba HD DVD player will lead to more sales for Hardware and software....yes, do I believe that the PS3 might be in a little trouble because of low sales...yes ( May hardware sales look to be about the same as April's here in the US-around the 80,000 to 90,000 range), do I believe that Blu Ray should sell more software then HD DVD this fourth quarter based on Spidey and Pirates 3....yes, was I very disapointed that both movies sucked in my opinion....yes, I am a republican, do I think that Bush has been a crappy President...yes, do I have both formats in my home...yes, do I think that most of the catalog titles coming out for both HD DVD and Blu Ray this summer really suck....yes.

Fox is holding back their titles to get BD+ on them

Word on the street is that you'll see a ton of announcments from them in July at whatever VSDA is now.

Sorry, there are two Pathfinders, one is The Pathfinder which is already out and has nothing to do with the Pathfinder which is announced for July release on DVD, but still not on Blu Ray, I wanted to see it on BR, the previews looked good.
