Default My first Steelbook purchase, is this worth it?

Hey everyon this is my first steelbook purchase, just wondering if these are worth keeping around sealed/mint condition to sell in the future? or should I just return them?

Thanks for the feedback guys, I am just gonna keep them and hold on to them...

So you only bought them to make a few quick bucks?

If so, just take them back, because they're still available in many stores.

Wow, that's a big purchase!
I only agree with tribalnoise's second and fourth rule Usually I don't see the point in buying steelbooks of movies I don't particulary like, but there are exceptions like my first edition John Rambo. If it's a movie I really like but the artwork sucks, I would really hesitate to buy the Steelbook, though. I'm not reluctant to create 'hybrids'. For instance: I would like to have the Blurays of The Departed and The Hulk, but there are only Steelbooks for the DVD editions. I will place these Blurays inside the DVD Steelbooks as soon as I've obtained them.
I myself always try to obtain two copies of each Steelbook: one I can open and keep for myself and one for possible trades or selling (or in case of emergency if I manage to break one of my Steelbooks). I find it very hard to estimate the future value of Blurays (the problem is that it's technology so in the end other media will take over) but I'm sure more experienced collectors could inform you about the current Steelbook demand and future popularity of these Pixar Steelbooks

Blu350z: I dont think steelbooks are for me, I am most likely going to return them, if you like and willing to pay for all shipping fees I am more than willing to send you Monster Inc for the price I got it for. $34.99 +tax.

Only the OP can decide if it's worth it all not. Nice starting collection by the way!

As someone who has just started to collect a few Steelbooks, i'm not doing it to make money.

To me, it's just a Steel tin (allbeit often a great looking piece of work) with a film in it.

I just saw tribals rules of Steelbooks

While I can't agree with 4 and i'm not fussed about 1, I most definately agree with 2 and 3!

I've seen some pics on the other thread and there's some fantastic collections and great movies but they're all sealed

Buy a steelbook, open it up, watch the film (many times if it's a good one) then display it nice and proud.

If you're only in it for the money then I guess buying them and keeping them sealed is the way to go though.

I think your guess is wrong. When a particular Steelbook isn't available in my country I have to find other ways to obtain it. A good option is to trade it for one of mine on this website. Thing is that many other collectors prefer to receive new copies and preferably in seal (just like the most popular auctions on eBay are concerning new, sealed items). So it's not JUST because of money I'm keeping my Steelbook sealed. Many times, there's no other option to obtain the Steelie I desire.

(there's also another reason: I still don't own a Bluray player yet, so unless I'm gonna go watch a Steelbook at my friends', I see no reason in opening it prematurely)

The only Disney ones that might be worth something are the Disney classics because they go into the vault for 7 years. In about 3 years Pinnochio, Sleeping Beauty and Snow White might fetch a $100 or better per title. The Pixar titles are not likely to go up in price as much as they never get vaulted.

I'd keep them, and quit buying SteelBooks after that.

But the 4th rule is a little weird...
Not buying amaray?

If you want to pass on a bunch of good movies it's up to you.

Ya there are a TON of GREAT movies that aren't released in Steelbooks. Only amaray. Do you just rent them instead?

I said that I go by rule 2 AND 3, not 1 and 4. I have a bunch of amaray, and will buy more in the future.
