I Only have a few, so I am nor expert. Mine came with 2 digital copy files: 1 for play on a PC (DVD quality is debatable) and another for my IPOD. Neither are 1080P or 5.1.

To be more specific...

The digital copies are near DVD quality. Due to the limitations of current portable hardware, the digital copies have to be resolution optimized for the lowest quality display.

Don't expect 1080p quality anytime soon since that would be 5gigs or more of space. There is also no Dolby Digital 5.1 sound. Its digital stereo or digital stereo surround sound. Again, a DD 5.1 track would just increase the file size too greatly.

In fact, digital copies are stored on a DVD disc...not a Blu-ray Disc since there are very few computers with BD drives. So to avoid customer dissatisfaction the two files (WMP and iTunes) have to fit on the DVD disc. To achieve this, the resolution is kept to DVD quality (or near DVD quality if you want to be anal about it).

I like digi copys & have 40 or so, there great when you have an iPhone/iPod. The quality is as good as it gunna get for what it is.... I'd never watch the digi copy over a Blu that's for sure. People act like it's to replace the BD!. But it's very nice PQ on a 3.5" iPhone screen! It's no HiDef on your computer, but that's not the point. I wish every BD came with a digi copy & I know that will piss off lots of people...oh well...

Well I think the basic point of digital copies is like for traveling, or maybe going to a friend's house who doesn't own a Blu-ray player, or even to entertain yourself when you are on your break from work. There are even methods like when sitting on the couch in whatever quiet area and have some earphones and just watch it without disturbing anyone. I'm sure theres probably lots more reasons but I'm sure these are probably the most common ones. But I think all Blu-ray movies that have been decided to include a digital copy should let us choose a one with a digital copy and 1 without(kind of like the Wall-E release for instance).

That's all fine and dandy, but they need to get rid of the disc factor. Make it an internet download. They could save a lot of money if they eliminated the need for physical resources in dispensing the copies. Also, the landfills continue to spread over an already crowded planet because of these useless additions.

Personally, I have over 250 BDs and every single digital copy that I've gotten is absolutely useless to me. The discs go straight into the garbage.

It would be fine if they got rid of the "disc", there has been a BD or two like that. It just takes longer (which is not a big deal). Don't blame the worlds trash on digital copies....

people like you and i would prefer internet download for our digital copies, but we're from canada, one of the world's most "connected" nations. but there are still large portions of people (americans and british for example) on dial-up. this is one reason the disc is provided, IMO the other reason is to put a cork in MS fanboys' mouths who keep spouting "download > disc" by providing consumers with the sources for their own comparison.

if that were true then studios would provide download codes instead of discs (in spite of people sans broadband). it only costs pennies to produce DVD media, and distribution is essentially zero since they're hitching a ride with the blu-ray. whereas bandwidth is actually more expensive than people think, take a look at sony's $0.16/GB PSN charge to developers if it's any indication.

lmao well i cannot comment on the british, and maybe my experience doesn't portray the real stats, but the last time i have heard anyone in america having dial-up was well over 5 years ago.

I could care less either way, its cool if they include it, and it's cool if they don't, i don't travel much at the moment or watch movies on my mac/ipod BUT you never know when that DC might come in handy.

Quality is 480, so not bad for your iPod, but not for your 50"

Do you really need blu-ray quality to watch on a tiny little ipod screen anyways? And if you are using it to watch on your computer, just get a blu-ray drive and put the blu-ray in and watch it that way...
