Aliens Blu-ray

I was watching aliens today on tv. And a thought popped into my mind. Why isnt this on blu ray...the box set....I thought well maybe its universal or something like transformers...Then i looked and its fox if im not mistaken...
I did a search in the forum and didnt find any answers
the only thing i could get from google searching earlier was fox was waiting on more blu ray players to be in circulation...I'm sure this has been talked about before...Any info on it or a release time if any? And why this hasnt been released yet.

Fox has the Star Wars and the Alien series. I would wager that the Alien series will be released first, but not this year. Looks towards 2009 (for Alien/Aliens)when the market penetration of blu-ray will have increased sufficiently.

I had the PAL Alien Quadrilogy Box Set and I hadn't actually watched any of the movies since I bought the set. (I have seen them before though).

I thought that I would take a look at Aliens on my upscaling DVD player. I was horrified at what I saw. Terribly grainy and colourless. I only watched 10 minutes and then sold the Box set on our local internet auction site for $NZ45. Good riddance.

So I'm hoping that a BD version will be released, and that the PQ and AQ are up to scratch with some of the other older movies.

Yeah...I see what you mean...But i always wonder why they waste there time and money putting out movies such as norbit /one missed call. to name a few..on blu ray. When they could make alot more money with something like star wars or aliens box sets....Every member here would probably buy those sets on the day they came out...They should put out more blu-ray movies now and capitalize on hd dvd backing out...Why wait with movies that are older like aliens and star wars....there will be new movies coming out..they should put out all the older stuff re - done...then they can come out with the new movies when they drop...

It has already been stated tby Bill Hunt in the insider forums that they are prepping the Alien movies for a tentative 2009 release.

Aliens would have it's benefits if it ever makes it way to Blu-ray, but the upgrade will be similar to that of Predator. Maybe sharper scenes ad some color boost, but it will still look 'grainy and colorless' as one poster said before me.

Exactly....Thats why i thought that they should release all the older stuff like star wars..aliens...they already did with predator...Release them now..why wait? There not going to look better than the newer movies coming out on blu ray...and they can make money from the fans waiting to buy the movies...Release the older stuff now...Then make it to where there just releasing whats coming out new as does dvd.

I totally agree, when i got my upscaler last year i slammed Aliens in straight away and was 100% let down and embarassed in front of the other half. It looked awful, it's in desperate need of blu-ing.

im just making a guess but its probably because when AVP first came out like a year ago or whenever that was it didnt do as well as they hoped or they might be waiting for like a new dvd bopx set with all Aliens movies (just Aliens no Predator or AVP). But I think Fox cares more about the newer movies then the older ones

I hope you all are not getting your hopes up for a blu-ray of Aliens that doesn't have grain because that will never happen. As has been discussed in other forums for many years regarding the striking difference in the boxed set between it and the other movies, Aliens was shot on very high speed film stock that shows its grain and lack of color saturation. I believe this film was used to give it a slightly documentary feel, so the grain is intentional. The blu-ray will be sharper, but unfortunately for those who hate grain, the grain will be crisper and more obvious as well.

I was about to say this. People are gonna be shocked when they see Aliens and Alien 3. Aliens will NOT be reference quality. Very grainy and very low budget high speed film.

Well I dont know about the picture? But I think ALIENS would sound awsome in DTS-HD. The first 2 ALIEN movies was my favorite of the series. 3 I thought was ok but not as good as the first 2. Part 4 I thought was pretty good thoe. The first 2 are just so fun to watch and they never get old. And thinks to ALIENS it showed Hollywood that woman could kick ass in movies.Classic stuff. It would be a must buy for me on Blu-Ray.

As far as PQ is concerned, I'll bet that the original Alien (Dir: Ridley Scott) will trounce Aliens (James Cameron) when they eventually appear on BD. After all for visual imagery RS is THE master. I would expect this to be reference quality when it appears.

Aliens: IMO an inferior movie, and much inferior PQ. This was evident way back when I had a couple of LaserDiscs of these. At that time both were pan and scan jobs, so filled the full frame. Alien was then reference quality, Aliens was definitely not, despite being a much more modern film.

This series deserves to be on BD. Perhaps the PQ of the sequels has put Fox off releasing them early in the life of the format, expecting criticism. If so, then they should just release RS's Alien. As a standalone movie it is a masterpiece of suspense. Despite some scenes looking dated (the 1970's springy toys in the wardroom for example), much of it would stand up to todays effects standards.

PS... Does anyone know if these movies have HD masters yet??? I would have expected to see these in HD on Sky Movies if they had.
