I’ve just had a quick look at the Blu Ray of the original Hills Have Eyes. I’d advise waiting for the US release, or just not bothering. It’s such a mess I’m not sure what’s artefact, grain or print damage, and I’m not sure if it comes from a High def source or just taken from the (less horrible looking if I remember) R1 DVD. I’ll compare them tonight if I can find the DVD. It certainly doesn’t look HD to me, possibly just sharpened SD, but I’m wary of making accusations like that when I know nothing of the technical side of things. I’m certain it’s been DNR’d at some point as the grain is not sharp, and then maybe contrast boosted to try and introduce some sharpness which just seems to add artefacts, but the print is so damaged it looks like it was filmed in permanent black rain. I should have known really as so many German releases seem to be put out to beat other countries at the expense of being proper transfers.
