Default The Muppet Movie pre order? (Aug 2018)

Noticed on the main page, that The Muppet Movie has a preorder listing on the main page and on Amazon, with a release date of August 28, 2018. I don’t believe the original blu ray is OOP, as it’s on most sites, for less than $20. Could it be a 4K release, remastering,or a mistake?

Probably a re-release with MA copy. They have one for that Oz movie too.

The original was one of the first with a HD digital copy instead of a disc based one, so it might just be a reissue.

I seriously doubt it, but I am hoping for the original theatrical cut which has never been released in US on any video format.

Do you mean the UK specific extended cut or is there another alternate floating around?

Oh that would be cool.

And isn’t there a version out there where you can hear the dialogue over the end credits more clearly?

Who are you kidding, we can't even get them to release the proper version of The Muppet Christmas Carol in widescreen HD.

The original theatrical cut was 97 mins, home video version is 94 mins, confirmed in Leonard Maltin book. I saw it 3 times in theater as a kid, was really irritated with the home video cuts as soon as I rented the vhs. The UK vhs release is called the extended cut, but it is the theatrical cut, not truly extended...

I think they have it in HD in the extras on iTunes as of last year. They stopped short of providing an alternate cut of the film because it probably costs more to rent out server space for alternate versions, but you can jump to it through the menu at the proper time quickly enough. It's not perfect but all things considered it's a very happy step in the right direction.

The longer 97 minute version, as originally released in theaters (in England at least) and released on video in England in the 80s, contains the following extended scenes:

Extended shots of Kermit entering the bar where Fozzie is performing, after the James Coburn cameo.
More of Fozzie being heckled in the bar. He honks a horn which falls apart. "This is not my night."
Extra shots as Doc Hopper and Max watch Fozzie and Kermit dance in the bar. A little bit more dancing and more of the crowd manhandling Kermit and Fozzie.
An extended commercial for Doc Hopper's Frog Legs. More of Doc Hopper asking Kermit to be his spokesman.
Extra Fozzie in "Moving right along." "A bear in his natural habitat - a Studebaker."
Even more Doc Hopper trying to convince Kermit. "Shut up, Max!"
In the church, an extended recap of the entire movie by Dr. Teeth - we see shots from previous scenes. It's not clear if this was actually in the version which screened in theaters, or if it was added for the video version, as the laserdisc version seems to have been edited on video.
Doc Hopper and Max chase Kermit and Fozzie. Max asks what his cut of a million is. A whole extra car chase scene of Max trying to catch up to Fozzie and Kermit, and failing.
An alternate musical arrangement on Never Before, Never Again.
Great extended version of Rowlf and Kermit dueting on "I Hope That Something Better Comes Along," with about two or three more verses. "A laddy needs a lassie." "Come father's day, the litterbug's gonna get ya."
Extra shot of Giant Animal laughing at the bad guys (possibly deleted because Animal's fingers were thought to look unconvincing - just a guess from me).
Extra reaction shots in Orson Welles scene.
A lot more explosion and set destruction footage when Crazy Harry blows up the set at the end, before "Life's like a movie." Seems like padding really. It's set to circus-y music.
Extended and alternate ending in the movie theater - Sweetums says "I just knew I'd catch up to you guys." All Muppets talk and say funny things over ending credits. Robin says Kermit is a great actor. Fozzie wants to hear that he was funny in the movie, but no one will tell him that except Kermit. Muppets are in character for the entire credits. Music is also different in this section.

We want it on blu-ray, not on digital. Right now, I think the only way to watch it is the laserdisc. The best 4:3 version is the DVD, and then the VHS if anyone still has it. The HD version on itunes is a barely cleaned copy of the scene from the laserdisc transfer. Someone posted it back when it was released, and you could tell that they didn't put more than five minutes worth of cleaning into it. It was nice, but not as nice as the rest of the film. (So working it back in would stand out.)

OK, this version needs to hit Blu-ray yesterday, because it sounds like the only version I'll ever need.

What's odd is that the Fozzie Studebaker line is present in the Blu Ray; which tells me it's either a mistake on IMDB's part or it was for some reason taken out but reinstated. It reminds me of "Blood Simple" where the original cut hasn't had a home video release in decades.

Yeah... And the Sweetums line has always been in the movie I've seen, what is alternate about the ending besides being able to hear the voices like the above posted clip? (and the extra explosions in the set?)
