Strictly Ballroom Blu-ray

Quote:
This wildly off-beat comedy is about a male dancer (Paul Mercurio) who refuses to follow the accepted rules of ballroom dancing and creates his own style of choreography, which infuriates the ballroom dancing establishment. Before he's scheduled to compete in the Pan-Pacific ballroom championships, he's forced to take up a new partner (Tara Morice), a beginner who initially seems without promise. With his help, she turns into an assured and wonderful dancer. Baz Luhrmann's visual style may be too bright, gaudy and exaggerated for some tastes, yet he treats his characters with compassion, which makes Strictly Ballroom such an engaging comedy.

Awesome, I guess I won't be seeing it for the my time on DVD. Hopefully I can nab this for under $10 before The Baz' latest movie.

A bit strange and gaudy, but still entertaining in a bizarre way.

It's not one I would invite all my friends to watch, "Shall We Dance?" is still a better choice, but I would enjoy it a time or two on bluray.

I'll snatch it if it's at a decent price.

Really good film, IMO. Saw it in the theater when I arrived too late for the film I had planned to see & was really glad I did. It was very funny. I own the DVD. The mother alone is worth the price.

It's $11.99. That's pretty decent.

Does it have a matching slip to the rest of the "trilogy?"

Oh yeah...that's very fair. I really admire Baz's style, and this does fit in nicely with Moulin Rouge. I'll grab it.

For those who have been looking for a copy, Amazon currently has 3 copies in stock for $14.99 right now.

While paying MSRP may not exactly be a "hot deal", note that it's been OOP (per Michael's Movie Mayhem) for quite some time.

Because of the OOP furor over this, I was delighted to find a copy today at Vintage Stock being sold brand new for $11.99. I think it's a possible re-release because it includes UV and altered artwork with the Digital Copy banner on the top front and UV banner on the back which isn't listed on this site.

Why the OOP furor over this? The UK version is region free, appears to have similar video and also has the original mono audio which I believe the US version lacks. Under $10 shipped at amazon UK too now.
