Default Vizio VBR220 sound problems

I have a Vizio VBR220 bluray player and a Sony STR-DG800 receiver. The bluray is connected to the receiver with HDMI for video and optical for audio.
My problem is that when I watch blurays, or netflix or listen to pandora I get sound from BOTH the tv & the receiver. I have tried different settings on the bluray player. What am I doing wrong? PLEASE help!!!!

i have a bd player hooked up to receiver and then to tv, and neither model is same as yours, and i get sound through my tv also, so i turn the volume down on the tv, so i can just listen to it thorugh the receiver, as far as i know there is no setting that will eliminate the sound from getting to your tv. some tvs have a setting where you can turn of the speakers, i just turn the volume down
