Default Which one do i get?

I'll be getting a new TV in the next few days. I have it narrowed down to these two. The first is Samsung LN46A650, and the second is Samsung PN50A650. I can get them both for about the same price. It will mainly be used for watching sports and movies. I do plan on playing my PS3 and XBOX 360 games on it also. Seating will be about 8 feet away at the most. Which one do you guys think i should get?

Well the LN46A650 would fit the space better but the 4 extra inches isn't that much. So i guess you could go with the PN50A650 I would go to the shop and stand & sit 8 feet away from both and try to get a good idea of what your working with.

Good Luck

Well, since the first one is LCD and the other is a plasma, you'll have to take into consdieration a few things. You said you game, but do you game a lot? If so, then you may want to think of the LCD. However, it appears you will be watching mostly sports and movies, this usually leans towards plasmas. I have a Sammy 650 LCD and love it. If the room you are watching this TV has a lot of ambient light or windows, then a plasma may suffer. Really are a lot of factors. In optimal room conditions based on your preferences, it seems to me you may want to think of the plasma. Just my 2 cents.

I don't get a chance to game that much. If i get a couple of hours at a time that's pretty good for me. The kid on the other hand does play quite a bit of games. Hopefully i can keep him on the Wii upstairs. As far as light goes there is one window on that side of the room. It's located under our deck so i don't think there will be that much light from there. The overhead light on that side of the room is the unknown. I can turn it off for movies at night, but what about TV during the day? We just bought the house so I'm not sure how much that overhead light might affect daytime TV watching. Thanks to everyone for their input.

46" vs. 50" --> 50"
LCD vs. Plasma --> Plasma

IMO, go for the pn50a650. Better picture quality and a larger television.

Gaming on a plasma is fine. Burn-in should not be an issue with new plasmas and IR is only an issue in the first 100 hours or so. BTW, lcd's get IR too.

Any reason why you've limited yourself to Samsung? You can get a nice Panasonic plasma of the size at about the same price and imo they are better.

I don't think this overhead light will have an adverse effect unless it shines directly on the TV. I am not sure how much gaming your kid will do, but most will say that LCD's are better served for gaming. But based on what you stated earlier, this is not a priority for you. So, I think you may want to look a little further into getting a plasma. Some people will tell you there is a "break-in" time of about 100 hours before you should watch any static images (like the scroll bars that roll acorss the bottom of the screen on ESPN or any imagery that changes infrequently.) Some say you do not need to do this. I own an LCD, so I can't really give you the best advise here, and leave it to the resident plasma guys. If you do decide to go plasma, or even LCD, use the search. It can really help provide you with a ton of info. Good luck and let us know what you decide!

I've read on this sight numerous people who recommend the Panasonic plasmas. I strongly considered getting one from Circuit City during the going out of business sale. Just from looking at tv's side by side in stores i preferred the Samsung's. I also looked at reviews of them and the Samsung's seemed to be among the higher rated ones.

I wouldn't judge them by how they looked at Circuit City. If you have a local specialty store they might allow you to adjust these displays for a better comparison than can be afforded at a larger retailer.

Absolutely! I've never heard anyone have buyers remorse over getting a TV too big!

Plus plasma is definitely better than LCD. Don't let the whole image retintion/burn in issue scare you away from plasma. It's overblown and as long as you use your TV responsibly, you'll never experience it.
