Default Panasonic lab grows with Blu-ray format

Growth is always a good sign...

"Picture-in-picture, where a separate video stream plays on top of the running feature film, will debut on a BD title this year, says Tsuyuzaki. This coincides with the BD Group’s Oct. 31 deadline mandating that all new hardware models launching after this date must handle picture-in-picture playback."
No more excuses for Warner Bros.

I find it interesting that they're right next door to Universal...

PHL also is testing a BD Live prototype title, which will likely street by early 2008.
Sweet.

PHL also has increased its staff from about a dozen to approximately 50 employees since shifting near NBC Universal (which ironically happens to exclusively support Blu-ray rival HD DVD).
Come on guys, more schmoozing!

Would picture-in-picture require additional read speed/data rate?

Panasonic was one of the companies that was hunting around for Java developers. I'm glad they are doing well.

I think we'll see The Matrix and Batman Begins available for Blu Ray holiday shopping this year.

Yep, with possibly PoTC 3 and Spidey 1/2/3 also at that time I think Hd-DVD may have a very hard time that quarter.

Maybe Warner did BD a tiny favor by holding these titles back... I guarantee that the Matrix boxsets will outsell the HD-DVD version on their first week.

should they give BD some exclusive treatment in the way of
AVC high bit rate and LPCM 5.1 audio, Animatrix in HD I would then re-buy AGAIN!!! otherwise i'm chilling with the HD-Dud version i scooped for $19.99 on the CC snafu.

I don't understand "additional".

Generally it works like this. BD's read bandwith is about 40/44Mbps (that's Megabits per second) with about 10Mbps for audio and the rest. Most movies would ONLY use this full bandwith for a few seconds only, if at all.

PiP on BD is mandated to be a minimum of 480p and a maximum of 1080p. In contrast, PiP on HD-DVD is maximum 480p30. PiP doesn't have to be all throughout the movie as well, as you can see/read from IME's implementation on HD-DVD. Some scenes may not have it while for some movies, PiP is used for a running video commentary (M:I-3).

In short, including PiP does take up bandwith. So instead of 40Mbps for one video stream, the primary (feature-film) stream may max out to 30-35Mbps while the secondary takes out the rest. It all depends on how the PiP is implemented and what scenes the PiP is involved in.
