Unfortunately, unless you have a 5mb or higher net connection, you will not be able to enjoy the HD stream.

I like Netflix Instant but unless the quality is improved for people with average internet connections (most households only have 1.5mb at the most), it won't replace my movies in the mail. I use Netflix Instant for movies I normally would not want to use a mailing on.

Sorry but I've got 6 up 1 down so it works great. It is actually the most cost-effective tier from my ISP when measured in $/mb. I just thought that most people had faster connections these days. I have had at least 3 up for over 10 years now. The price per mb is going down and someday it will be much cheaper for everybody to stream. Netflix does need to get better audio though. Right now it is DD 2.1. But right now I am enjoying Star Trek, season 1 for free as the source for this is 40+ year old video with a mono track anyway.
