USA Casino Royale Collector's Edition

Okay, I am usually a sucker for better picture, sound, and special features. But with a release like Casino Royale, you would think MGM would load the original blu-ray ith more than a music video and a featurette. The new edition looks like it would be worth double dipping in, but I would like to know from you guys if it is or not.

Cover is definitely better imo. If you're lucky maybe you can find one with a slipcover.

Yeah, I work at Blockbuster, and we have one with a slipcover. It was $34.99, but now it is $29.99 along with most of our other blu-rays. I am very tempted to get it.

Eh, I thought the "new" features were just alright. Informative, but not something I'd revisit again and again. But the case cover is gorgeous and it just looks way, way classier than the original release.

If you have the original Blu release, I honestly wouldn't plunk down the cash to upgrade. Unless you simply must have that new cover, because it is incredibly snazzy.

New cover for thirty bucks, sign me up. I'm not at home to check, but I'm pretty sure the original has the PCM track and it sounds awesome. If the pic is the same, why pay more for the compressed DTHD track???

I want to see/hear the QOS blu.

Sony's new Blu-ray version, the release of which is timed to help promote the theatrical debut of the next chapter, Quantum of Solace, next month, is a two-disc set. The film is presented in 1080p high-definition on Disc One, and the quality is excellent. The compression has been optimized to make the most of the extra disc space, so the video quality is even a little tiny bit better than the already terrific previous release. Better still, while the original disc featured an uncompressed PCM track, this new edition features full Dolby TrueHD 5.1 lossless surround. It's every bit as good as the original mix.

MGM has nothing to do with the Casino Royal home releases, Sony owns that particular Bond movie.

A few months back I was asking for guidance on which movie to get. I opted for the new version and I don't regret my decision.

I had the DVD, but I ended up trading it in for store credit. I recommend getting the new edition and trading in the old one. If Blockbuster doesn't take movies then take it to Movie Stop, Sound Shop or Suncoast.

Yeah, I don't think Dolby truhd is compressed. Also, I read somewhere that the CE sounded better and was mixed hotter than the PCM version. So it sounds better and has more special features.

I don't get why people always drop the 'e' in Casino Royale.

Agree completely. Bought the newer version for $19.99 last week, but had I bought the first version on blu, I'd not double dip for the sake of a killer cover and hit or miss special features.
