I'm confused is the player gonna be able to do the true hd sound and lossless audio? Also will it be complient with the blu-ray standards effective October 31st?

unfortunately no TRUE HD Audio, but PCM and DD PLus yes, so I'm a little iffy on wanting to buy a 2nd gen without true hd capability

Didn't the bdp-1 just get an update adding the true hd audio? So more than likely it will be able to do it.

the Bdps1 just got the upgrade, I wonder, does anybody know if the s300 will have a memory like the bdps1 and capable of this same upgrade in the future? I hope so much that it will.
I was at costco yesterday, and saw a HD DVd player for 250 bucks that decoded True Hd, what's with Sony? I love them, but what's with this 2nd gen lacking true hd?

According to articles I have read (hopefully accurate articles) all the first generation BLU-RAY standalone’s will not do PIP. Most likely the BDP-S300 will have a minimum of 256MB of storage for PIP. Also most likely the Samsung BD-P1200 will do PIP and most likely has a minimum of 1GB of memory for BD-live feature. The Pioneer BDP-94HD most likely will do PIP also and most likely will do BD-live. Economically it would be unwise to make a second generation player for a few months and then have to discontinue the product on October 31st. October 31s it is mandated that all new players have 256MB of RAM for PIP and all new players that have the optional Ethernet jack must have 1GB of RAM. Then with a firmware update PIP should be available on the new players late this year. Then BD-Live will be available early 2008 with a firmware update.

The Sony PS3 supports PIP and BD-live with firmware update (according to article I read).

The following players most likely have the min 256MB of memory for PIP or if they do not then they will be going out of production October 31st.

Sony BDP-S300
Samsung BD-1200
Pioneer BDP-94HD

The following players most likely have the min 1GB of memory for BD-Live or if they do not then they will be going out of production October 31st.

Samsung BD-1200
Pioneer BDP-94HD

In the future when these players are professionally reviewed we need the reviewers to verify that these second generation players do PIP and the ones with Ethernet jacks do BD-live.

Yes all BLU-RAY players that play CD’s can use CD-R’s and most the time CD-RW. Only the first generation Sony and Pioneer required DVD-ROM discs.
