Default Sony HTDDW7000 MUTEKI 7.2

So what do you guys think of the Sony HTDDW7000 MUTEKI 7.2? I will be upgrading my main home cinema to Blu-ray probably at the end of this year and I wanted to know if the Sony HTiB will be sufficient. I will probably be getting it here http://www.digitalhome.com.au/Hifi_A...E_SYSTEM/25855

Never saw that set up before and I am a huge Sony fan. many say that Sony doesn't make great speakers. I wonder how these would fair?

looks nice, but I think you can probably build you a system piece by piece for a cheaper price than that, or right at that same price at least.

that looks cool as hell, but after my last sony I kind of stay away. I just picked up the onkyo 9100, but after seeing that I was kind of jealous.... I am sure when my setup arrives though the jealousy will go away.

I just did a tiny bit of research and it looks like the speaker package is impressive but the receiver is lacking. It only has hdmi pass through as far as i can tell. for me that is a deal breaker when I was looking for my system. it may not be so for you.

Yeah, it doesn't appear to have video upscale features, but that's not a bad setup from the looks of it. It passes audio over HDMI, and though Sony doesn't make the best speakers they certainly make solid speakers for the money. This setup looks pretty comparable to some of Onkyo's offerings. Its a good option for those who don't want to piece together a system. I must say I'm impressed by what I see. Of course what you hear is more important.

Well my current plans are to get a 50" Plasma and PS3 which will then be connected to this. So I should be able to get lossless audio if the PS3 decodes it and the receiver has HDMI right?

If that receiver is HDMI pass through, then no you wont be able to. the receiver has to accept audio through HDMI.

According to the specs it passes 8 channel uncompressed audio over HDMI so this would work with the PS3 and other players that internally decode audio.

The receiver is the Sony STR-DG720 from the specs, and all sony receivers say HDMI pass through, Sony uses this phrase differently from other manufactures, even on my old 710 is said HDMI pass through, now I didn't get LPCM or DDTHD/DTSHD but I got the leagcy surround sounds and 2 channel LPCM.
