Default TV Outside in Iowa

I was wondering if it would be possible to mount a TV outside, in the state of Iowa where the temperature could change 50 degrees in one day, rain one day, snow the next, etc.

I saw some outside enclosures that were outrageous in price...so I was wondering if anyone had any ideas / comments on what to do / what you have done.

The TV would not be covered in any way that I am aware of currently.

I was thinking along the lines of building like a box to place it in with some sorrt of clear cover to shield it from the rain. I would bring it in during the winter, so cold wouldn't be an issue.

Any ideas?

You could get a mobile command center and mount a projector. If the weather turns for the worse just grab your gear and get it indoors.

I would like to leave the TV outside at all times, and bring it in for the winter.

Those outdoor tv's are way more then I would like to pay. I am basically interested in placing a regular TV outside, and maybe building something by myself...anyone ever done something like this?

or, I would like the cover to be around 100 dollars, which I am sure isn't enough to buy a pre-made one.

Buffalo Wild Wings leave the TVs out all year long. Why not ask them if they had any issues. IMO as long as the set is not directly exposed to the elements, I think that even the sucky weather in IA is within operating conditions.

If your worried about the rain, snow and moisture why not use something like a rain tarp, BBQ cover etc to keep it dry?

temperature extremes can have an effect on electronics...i am not sure how long your tv would last outside. Humidity would be my major cause for concern, cover or not....

The humidity is pretty bad here at times...which is why I'm considering taking it inside when not in use. However, I will need some sort of solution that would be easy for my wife to lift, place, and hook up while doing so. The TV will be a small one, so weight won't be an issue. I was kind of thinking a corner mount, one that can be slid on and off easily, and then outdoor wiring to hook it up each time. But, that again is a pain in the butt.

I would prefer to make some sort of cabinet that would protect it from the rain so I can leave it out all seasons (minus winter). I would take the first year as a trial, and use an existing TV I have that has some issues, but still works.

I am looking at DIY network forums and I think I might get some ideas there to build something.
