Assuming we're talking about the big fancy gift sets:
I think it'll have to be "Blade Runner." It came with a portfolio of artwork, a toy car, a plastic origami unicorn, one of those film cell plaque things, and it was all in its own bloody briefcase. I actually bought both the DVD and Blu-Ray, and they're both in the case. Not to mention, the movie itself has five discs on it, with the best quality and shedloads of special features. It's an awesome set. Good runner-ups would be: *"Wanted" limited edition (in which I also stuck the CD soundtrack in. I would have stuck the PS3 game in it as well, but the game's case is too big to fit). *"The Dark Knight" Bat-Pod display case *"Troy" 2-disc director's cut DVD (in which I stuck a Blu-Ray copy as well) *"The Planet of the Apes" complete collection (which so far I only have as DVDs, but it has all movies and shows, and it came with a bust of Cornelius' head!) I would have ordered the new "T2" SkyNet edition with the edoskeleton head, but it was a bit too expensive for me, especially since I have all the discs already (minus the new Blu-Ray that is). If we're talking about any old collector's edition: The "Casino Royale" 2-disc Blu-Ray is great. "No Country For Old Men" would be a runner up. And I'm looking forward to the new edition of "300." I'm just starting a Blu-Ray collection, but so far I have the Planet of the Apes: 40 Year Evolution Blu-ray Collection, which I got through Amazon Gold Box a couple of weeks ago and I just got the I Am Legend Ultimate Collector's Edition yesterday. These sets are so nice. I love these collector's sets, which I never thought would interest me very much. Next one up is the Limted Edition T2 Complete Collector's Set on May 19 (even if it is kinda pricey)...can't wait

Overall, I strongly dislike these super deluxe editions, mainly because it's usually a couple of useless tirnkeys and a huge price hike.
I DO like it when it is a collection of multiple movies, or a whole TV series, and the price is comparable to individual disc releases. The Planet of the Apes blu ray set is great! The book is beautiful. And, unlike most "trinkets", it adds a lot to the experience of watching these movies. I am Legend is a disappointment. The book is pretty, but useless. The postcards and lenticular are beyond useless. The only reason I bought it was for the BB 2/$35 deal (bought 2, sold one for $30, so I got mine for $5!). The Casablanca set is so-so. The book is nice, and gives a little info and still photographs, but it isn't the PotA book. The mail-away for the movie moster was nice, but the paper quality was cheap. Passport holder and luggage tag? Seriously??? So, yeah, for the most part I don't care for these. But, they can be great for a series of movies... |
