Default Russell Brand in Arthur/Drop Dead Fred Remakes?

Scary idea but nothing surprises me now. I didn't see anything posted about this so I'm sorry if it has been brought up already.

and..........an Arthur remake?????? I just read that bit too. I'm a huge Arthur fan and waiting for it to hit blu but to me this seems wrongs. There was a serious/sad tone to Dudley Moore's performance that made it a great movie to me, I don't think Russell Brand could do it justice.

Two weeks Notice was a rip-off of Arthur with Hugh Grant and that didn't work. I think the only person to pull off Arthur would be Robert Downey Jr.

Drop dead Fred is one of the worst movies ever. I rather get punched in the face constantly by Viny Jones then watch that piece of crap again.

I read this morning about the Drop Dead Fred remake. I loved this movie when I was 10 but I just don't know how it could be a hit in today's market (not that it was much of a hit when it was initially released). It's just too weird a movie to be a mainstream hit.

Didn't Drop Dead Fred kill the careers of all the actors involved?

Can an Admin person change the name of the thread to Arthur/Drop Dead Fred remakes?

Arrow Russell Brand in Arthur/Drop Dead Fred Remakes?

...this guy!

Quote:
Universal is resurrecting "Drop Dead Fred," this time as a starring vehicle for Russell Brand.

Dennis McNicholas, one of the writers of Universal's upcoming "Land of the Lost," will pen the remake. Marc Platt is producing via his studio-based Marc Platt Prods. along with Working Title's Tim Bevan and Eric Fellner.

The 1991 original starred Phoebe Cates as a wallflower who loses her job and husband during the course of a lunch hour. Forced to live back home, she's reunited with her childhood imaginary friend (Brit actor Rik Mayall), who promises to help but causes more havoc.

Produced by PolyGram and Working Title, the first "Fred" was critically drubbed and commercially unsuccessful. But it did achieve a certain cult status and is considered a film that fell short of its full potential.

The take for the new "Fred" is to make a film in the tone of "Beetlejuice," building a universe around the concept of imaginary friends. Brand would play the trouble-making pal.

Brand seems to making Universal his American home. The comedian and former BBC host made his U.S. screen debut with the studio's "Forgetting Sarah Marshall" and is rehearsing for the Judd Apatow-produced "Get Him to the Greek," which shoots in May.

Brand also appeared in Disney's "Bedtime Stories" and is attached to star in Warner Bros.' remake of "Arthur."

McNicholas, a longtime writer on "Saturday Night Live," is scripting the feature version of "H.R. Pufnstuf" for Columbia. He and Brand are repped by Endeavor.

Platt is producing "Scott Pilgrim," Universal's adaptation of the graphic novel series by Bryan Lee O'Malley now lensing in Toronto.

omg i hate russel brand, what a huge deuche. I remember liking the original with rik mayall, i used to love the show bottom when i was a kid living in england. But man anything with russel brand with the exception of forgetting sarah marshall where he is pretty much playing himself (a huge deuche) is something i may ignore.

This, coming fresh off of a failed proposal to remake Dudley Moore's "Arthur"...
"Aw, c'mon, folks, you'll LOVE how obnoxious and self-indulgent I am!--All I have to do is find some recognizable market brand to attach my marketable persona to by association!"

(Um, yeah, either that, or WE STILL DON'T WANT YOU OVER HERE.
We've already got Ashton Kutcher and Seth Rogen; we're well stocked with unstoppably narcissistic slobs, thanks.
And never thought I'd say this, but Rik Mayall is still ten times funnier than Brand will ever be...Albeit in http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AzMAWCkzVnM )

This is a tough one for me. I loved Drop Dead Fred back in the day. I do not like the character who's set up to play Fred in the re-make, though. Granted, I haven't seen this guy in too many things, but the things I have seen make me fairly uninterested in his works.
