It's that time of year again!

I'm lucky and have 3 stores in my area. Will be a fun day.

What exactly is it? Good thing I looked, though. I found a pile of record stores near me I didn't even know existed. I know what I'm doing this weekend now...

I'm pumped for Record Store Day! We have a couple of great shops here in St. Louis. I'm especially excited for this:

This will serve as the perfect reason to visit the old Mushroom on Broadway. Yep, it's still above the old Boot (college drinking dive next to Tulane University). One of the few record stores that have managed to survive the digital age in my home town.

I'm heading over to Buffalo tomorrow to see what I can get.

Rhino is releasing Jane's Addiction's "Nothing's Shocking" and "Ritual de lo Habitual" for record store day, I'd like to grab those.

Ooh yes thanks for the heads up. I'll probably pick up the JA to get me ready for the NINJA tour.

Tomorrow I'll have my eyes peeled for Animal Collective and Santigold. I'd like to replace my MGMT cd with the vinyl copy too.

I have the Heaven & Hell 7' sitting waiting for me. I'll have to see what else I can find. Note to self: bring cash so you don't alert the wife.

Psychonaut - - that's got to be the first King Diamond avatar I've seen here... are you a fan? He's a really nice guy, in spite of his stage persona.

Vinyl sales up 55% through Q1/09 already according to Nielsen!

And RSD was a total success it sounds like - most stores saying they smashed through last year's vinyl sales by noon and other stores saying they beat their entire sales just with their vinyl sales.

Awesome. At the first of two stores I went to, the cashier said they had twice as many people waiting when the doors opened as last year. They hadn't ordered nearly enough of the vinyl exclusives to meet the increased demand. They were already sold out of some of them when I got there a little after 10 a.m. I expect next year to be even bigger.

Even though I don't get the newsletter from Newbury comics... for the last two years I have gone there on Record Store Day by accident looking for a used Blu Ray and as I result I always buy about 4 used Blu Rays.

(Blu Rays are 30% off on that day.)

Yesterday ... or was it the day before now... I went in a picked up several titles they had used that I needed that little push to get.

Haha yes, I'm a fan. I first heard him in 1984 with MF. Had an opportunity to meet him once but he got distracted by the two beautiful girls in front of me and was wisked away. I can't say I blamed him

I scored the 80-track, 4-CD Ocean Boulevard beach music boxed set for $28.00. It sells for $64 on Amazon.

record store day was a wash. the store i was at had nothing. no elvis costello, no grand duchy, no dukes, etc. at all. their cd section was atrocious. i know, i know. it's all about vinyl. i don't own any equipment to play vinyl so i don't buy any. i was there to pick up some cd's. ended up with robyn hitchcock and the venus 3's goodnight oslo.
