Default What Do You FEAR?

Homelessness. I fear losing my job and becoming homeless. I'm literally just a pink slip away from the street because I haven't been wise enough to save money. I think I'm pretty safe now at my current job, which I've held for 23 years, but you never know.

Flying. Since I was a kid I've been fascinated with airplanes and flight. But lately my legs begin to wobble the moment I step inside a plane. Thankfully I don't travel that often. I guess I shouldn't watch those plane crash documentaries on Nat Geo.

Drowning. I nearly drowned at a beach outing when I was 7 so I'm aquaphobic. During an outing in the Caribbean a couple of years ago I climbed onto a dilapidated pier at a beach without lifeguards. I thought I could handle it since I didn't go to the other end but I broke into a sweat and started getting dizzy. There were other people on the pier as well (daredevils) so each time someone would approach to get past me I would grab a railing so hard my hand turned beet red. To this day I don't know what got into me for getting onto that pier.

Spiders. My sister posted a photo of a large but skinny spider she caught in her bathroom. If that were ever to happen to me I think that'll be the end lol.

But my biggest fear is getting sick with a terminal disease like Cancer. What a terrible way to go

I am also afraid of flying, mostly because I don't like to not be in control. I drive a TON for work and I enjoy it. Should something happen in the car I can steer, brake, brace, etc. If I'm in seat 23C and the engines go and the roof of the cabin rips off I would probably die of heart attack before impact. I very regularly have nightmares about being killed in a plane crash.

Deep water for me. I am a great swimmer but I get very uncomfortable when I can't touch the bottom. For instance treading water and looking down to see my feet or hands my mind races at what I might glimpse coming near me. I can't innertube in a lake, snorkel past 8 ft, scuba, etc.

There's SO much that can go wrong with a plane in midair. There are a million moving parts, wiring, etc. A fire is probably everyone's worst nightmare. They should make flying machines that don't require thrust, taking off or landing and can float on water like a ship should the engines fail. The "airship" would simply lift off the ground vertically and then fly.

On a recent flight to New York from the Caribbean, the seat belt sign stayed on for the entire 3 hour flight because of choppy air. I could tell the pilots were ascending and descending as needed to avoid the rough air. They even diverted toward the shoreline, which made me feel a little better. A plane going down over the ocean in darkness would be my ultimate nightmare.

Don't mean to go too deep here--but I have this fear of failure that I'm working to defeat all the time.

Heights and spiders. I'm fine as long as I don't look down, but spiders or even the suspicion of spiders sends me screaming to the other side of the house. Hate the little shits.

Dying alone was one of my biggest fears growing up. It remains at the top of my list despite now being married and having a kid.

Financially falling into hardship. I'd rather die a quick death than face a lingering problem that would cause me to sell my home and put me into financial ruin.

oh i have...and that scene creeps me the **** out.

but not near as much as the one in hp8 when the snake is attacking Severus. or in hp7 when it's slithering along the table and you see it strike directly towards the camera...? yeah, **** that shit. when that scene comes up, i hit the skip button to go forward a few seconds.

Heights, spiders (big ones), the open ocean (this is probably my biggest fear of all), blindness, homelessness.

Yeah, whenever I see movies with boats anchored in the middle of the ocean, and someone casually dives in for a swim, I'm like "No thank you". I need to know there's a sandy bottom that I can actually SEE.

I would be in constant fear that a current would sweep me away from the boat. I can swim, just not for long distances.
