Default Program for creating Room Schematics?

Does anyone know of an inexpensive Windows-based design programs that I could use for drawing up room schematics? It doesn't have to have all of the fancy design componants in it, just something basic and that gets the job done.

I'm sure you could get a copy of Adobe Illustrator inexpensively. It does vector-based drawings, and is what I use primarily for my schematics (like the one in my gallery).

EDIT: and of course you still have AutoCAD, too. A bit pricey, though.

I use AutoCAD - then again, as an architect, I need that around regardless!!

Try Google SketchUp, it's free. Good for some basic 3D modeling, too.

From my days of experimenting with Photoshop, which I thought had a pretty significant learning curve, would Illustrator not present me with the same obstacle? Your vector-based drawing is very nicely done by the way!.

Can you recommend something a little simpler?

Thx JJ! I'll check that out. Like I said, I just want something simple and basic. (i.e.....something this old guy can understand!)

Thanks. Yes, and no. It's really not too bad to self-learn Illustrator; I personally think it's simpler than Photoshop. AutoCAD is nice, and possibly less complicated than Illustrator once you learn it, but you have to learn the language first, and I have no idea how savvy you are with computers and such.

Probably better than the average user and I have used AutoCad before. In fact, I took a course years ago when I was in the manufacturer business.

Thats what came to mind as well, I learned how to use it in high school. Us pervs in class even master pron with it and printed in off on the plotter. I cant remember if we got in trouble or not but I do remember a principals office visit. It was the upperclassmen's fault

This program is the cheapest thing that comes to mind
