Default Quickly caught the Blu-ray bug!

Hey everyone,

I just joined a few days ago and have been checking everything out.

I have a pretty expansive DVD collection, but decided to finally go BLU! I bought a new TV and BD player just last Monday and have already purchased 7 BD movies in the past week!

I need to slow down or I'll be broke! I'm hooked!

Welcome to the forum! Just be prepared, because after you're here for a while, you're gonna start want to dropping some $$$ on a surround sound system.

Take it slow man. There's no hurry. You don't need the Blu-ray unless a.) you don't already have the DVD, b.) you really like the movie and c.) it is visually spectacular.

Certainly. No one "needs" a BD.

That said, of the first 10 BDs I bought, I already owned 5-6 on DVD. The BDs are visually better and, just as importantly, the HD sound is amazing (even on my old, non-HDMI receiver).

To contradict myself, if you like it enough to buy on DVD then it can only be better on Blu-ray, right?

I have gone to the well twice for the same movie, but that's only because Blade Runner Blu-ray has the original theatrical release which I prefer to the Director's Cut. That said, I've been tempted to double up on other movies that wouldn't necessarily benefit that much from a Blu-ray treatment (i.e. Life of Brian) for nothing more than the full screen. Zoomed in DVDs look horrible.

agree, why have three rules when you only need one . If it is something I would want to see then I buy the BD.

Yeah, so I have read. I will be moving into a new place at the end of June and plan on buy a receiver and speakers to set up a nice lil home theater set-up. Just takes time and money that's all!

Believe me when I say "I feel your pain". It took me 5 years to amas 200+ DVD's but in just over one year I have amassed 127 Blu-rays, new TV, new reciever, and started to get a set of worthy speakers.

Oh and by the way, keep an eye out for blus you want on the trading forum here. You can grab a lot of great movies for cheap if you watch for them and are a little bit patient.

I've had the PS3 since xmas of '07 and I went with surround sound in September of '08. I only have 10 Blu-rays, all but one of which I have received as gifts. So, despite the fact my g/f thinks I need therapy for my a/v obsession, I think I've managed to keep my cool.

Actually, my obsession is only limited by my meager financial resources and my cheapskate nature.

Oh, no offense taken. I was attempting to demonstrate how my home theater hobby has been slowly snowballing into an obsession.

Welcome......

I see Blu-ray really urging people into audio systems...... but with an expansive DVD collection, I'm surprised you didn't have some sort of 5.1 setup in the past...... There are plenty of great DD 5.1 tracks out there on DVD, so in addition to discovering the capabilities of Blu-ray, you're probably going to rediscover your DVD collection with a new Audio system!!!!!

Again, Welcome to the site!
