Default Steaming from Pc

Hi, First post here so i hope its in the right place. (i did a search on this topic, but did not find anthing).

I have a Sony BDP-S350 Blu ray player. And was wondering if it is possible to stream video content (such as netflix or itunes movies/rentals) from my Pc to my BR player via the ethernet port.

I am not able to try this for myself yet as i'll need to buy a wireless bridge to connect.

Thanks in advance for any replies.

I would think a firmware update might possibly change that (?), but at the moment I don't believe its possible.

Get a Samsung BDP or an xBox 360 for the netflix.

The ASD-3N (3W is wireless version) streams lossless audio (WM, FLAC; MP3 also) and pictures from my PC to my receiver and then to my TV and internet radio also at no monthly charge, but it doesn't stream video content from the internet or from my PC.

Am I missing something here? I'm being serious, not smart-a$$. Why not go straight to your TV from your computer? That is to say: why go through your Blu-ray player at all? My recommendation is to go directly from your computer to your TV (or receiver, if you have the proper inputs).

I run TVersity (free) on my PC to stream movies/music from the PC to my PS3. I haven't really done much with movies (trailers and such), but use it all the time to listen all my ripped CDs (Flac).

You need the right video and audio cards in the computer to do that plus if the computer is in another room such as mine is, ethernet and a bridge is easier. But if you have the right stuff inside the case and your computer is in your media room, then yeah, connect it directly to your HDTV and receiver.

Ohhhh. OK, now I see why someone might want to connect via ethernet to the BD player. I wasn't putting that together for some reason.

I'd say most computers are easily capable of putting out a 1920x1080 signal — and many can go even higher than that. I have super-basic, secretary-ish desktop computers in use in my house as HTPCs for both of my HDTVs and they work flawlessly, so the video shouldn't be a problem. I see logistics as the only issue; like having a computer in another room as you mentioned.

I guess if we knew the exact setup, it might be easier to offer more ideas to the OP.

Do they have HDMI output on the back of the case?

The one in my sig and gallery is VGA. The one in my master bedroom (which is a new setup and is not in my gallery [yet]) is DVI. Both display an excellent picture. They're both Dell SFF computers: SX260 and SX280.

DVI to HDMI Converter (or DVI input on the HDTV) will handle the video, but what about the audio? You still need HDMI to get the HR audio codecs to the receiver and that is assuming that you don't want to use the receiver for switching and lyp-sync functions.

I'm using a DVI->HDMI converter for one, and simply going 3.5mm headphone jack to red/white RCA for audio. The one on my other TV is a straight VGA connection with the same audio setup.

I may be incorrect in this assumption, but if you're considering using a PC to view Netflix on a TV, you're not really worried about high-end sound codecs, since you can't get Netflix in HD with a PC anyway.

Or perhaps I'm not getting what you're trying to say...

I was thinking you had a blu-ray drive in you computer. But there are HD audio codecs for music now too.

Oh....no. No Blu-ray drive in either computer at this time. I've been contemplating building up one from scratch and including a Blu-ray drive, but I have not done that yet. I've got two standalones — one for each TV.

Where did the author of this thread go?! We need to know what his setup is like so we can help solve the issue.

I have been doing this for years with a Buffalo Multimedia DVD Player, over Ethernet. Software is needed to be loaded on the PC in order to read and Stream the Video Files. Buffalo does have a Multimedia Player that will Stream certain Video Files, but for Netflix or iTunes you need something like Roku Media Player. I would not waste my time with Wireless to Stream Video Files, Ethernet is the only way to go.

Okay, so what do you use at the TV to go from ethernet to the TV? Scratch that!

And yeah, hard wired ethernet is the only way to go.

That looks like a pretty cool unit and it is only $165 at amazon. I don't have a whole lot of video (some shot a long time back that actually looks better on a small screen!) on my pc but if I had one of those, that might change. It does 1080i/720p; I wonder if there is a unit that does 1080p? The Denon ASD-3N only streams audio and still pictures. Down the road a bit I think I might want to stream video too, but I think I'll need a faster computer with more memory first as the audio streaming slows it down a bit right now. This thing is a four year old 2.4MHz P4 with 3gigs of ram running XP/SP3. It is about at it's life cycle but I don't want to spend the $$$ just yet building a new machine.
