MaddenThrowback With the lockout lingering, the folks at EA are feeling the effects of the labor impasse. And so will the rest of us. Eric Fisher of SportsBusiness Journal reports that the release date for the latest version of the Madden franchise has been pushed back three weeks, from August 9 to August 30. There are several possible reasons for the move. The delay gives the folks at EA some extra time in the event the dispute is resolved before the start of training camp, which would give them an opportunity to shuffle free agents to their new teams. Also, if the dispute hasn’t been resolved, EA can market a game that’s released on the Tuesday before Labor Day weekend as the next best thing to real football. And if the powers-that-be wake up and get a deal done in late August, fans can celebrate the end of the lockout by purchasing the Madden game. http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com...k-three-weeks/ |

They also need to worry about their servers from disconnecting. "IF" I continue to run a Madden League. I will push the start of Week 1 just so we DL all the patches. 2011 had plenty of flaws.
If there's no REAL NFL season. Is it really worth buying Madden 12? ![]() |

No, its probably not worth it. How would they be able to update the Team rosters from what we currently have if nobodys playing in real life?? No roster updates=not worth it imo

new madden, same game
![]() that being said ill probably get madden 12 but i WILL BUY USED and then pay the $10 for the online pass. that way crummy madden doesnt get $60 of my money, they only get $10 and thus wont be able to count me as one of the people that 'bought madden'. ill gladly give gamestop my $$$ for a USED copy of madden than give madden my $$$ and then they turn around and use it to try to buy another exclusive license --------------------------------------- im anxiously awaiting apf 2k12 'jailbreak' youtube it |

Here's the obligatory "it's just a yearly roster update anyway" comment.
EA Sports has whiffed big time with the current gen. The only game of the big 4 that's been worth a damn is NHL. They retooled NBA Live and ended up cancelling it after it was a box of bugs. Madden has been the same thing since the 2nd version...just replacing gimmicks with new gimmicks and eventually making the new features online dependent. Of course if you buy the game used, you have to fork over another $20 just to get those new features. Tiburon has lost all credibility. It may be minor to some but for years the development team was peppered with question from Bears fans about why they didn't have Soldier Field in the game. For years they (here's looking at you Ian Cummings) stated that they try every year but Chicago doesn't want them to have. Fast forward to last month. With the lockout on and sales threatened they make a grand announcement that for the first time ever, Soldier Field will be in the game. In the article written about the announcement, it was revealed by the city that at no time did EA approach them until recently. It's great that it's finally in but between their lies and the fact that they are likely fixing the voting for a Rodgers cover, it'll be a cold day in hell before I buy another one of their current gen games. (And for those wondering since it always comes up....I'm not a 2K fanboy either. In fact teh only game of theirs that I can stand is NBA 2K.) |

EA has last year's Supreme Court ruling that the NFL is not a single entity and can't have exclusive contracts and the monopoly lawsuit that was recently ruled breaks California's law and the lawsuit by both college players and 6000 former NFL players whose likeness they used in all those games that had the old teams in it but not their names but had their numbers going against them. Karma is coming back to bite them on putting out a crappy game and bullying 2K and everyone else out of making NFL and College games. Yes, it looks good, but it has too many exploits. I want a game that makes me feel like I am playing football, the chess match involved vs worrying that the guy I am playing is going to pull some BS exploit that would NEVER work in a real game.

things that make no sense in madden
plus the players in madden are very small. i love 2k player models much better. in madden the field feels small too......like the sideline to sideline distance doesnt relate to real life sideline to sideline Last edited by DonRSD; 04-14-2011 at 01:46 PM. |

On the issue of player models, Madden's aren't perfect (NCAA's are better - to some extent it deals with animation as well), but 2K player models were by far the worst part of the game for me. Ugliest things ever - didn't know that these guys' parents were part Pandoran ![]() |
