Default When was the last time you watched a feature film on VHS and what movie was it?

I know some people still watch movies on VHS. Sometimes it’s because the movie never made it to DVD or higher format and sometimes it’s for nostalgia.

What was the last store bought feature film VHS movie you watched? (Do NOT include stuff recorded off TV or home made videos)

What month/year was it watched?

What made you watch it?

For me, it is A Bronx Tale. I saw it in 2008 and the reason I saw it on VHS was because it was all my college professor had so he used that and projected it to the class. It was quite enjoyable despite the lower quality.

The House on Haunted Hill with Vincent Price some time around 2011-12? I picked it up for a quarter in a library sale and it was so worn out from being watched so much the picture quality was pretty fuzzy. I had to dig out my VCR to watch it. I have watched a couple of things recorded off the TV since then though.

The last I remember, BBC's TV treat broadcast of Aliens, I still remember the ads between "The Medlab" and now every-time I get to that part on Blu-ray I expect the ads twenty years on.

I do not think I experienced the rest of the films then, until the DVD "Alien Quadrilogy" release came out, distant memories now honestly.

For "first run" movies it was either Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas or The Truman Show. They were both 1999.

I did buy the occasional ex rental/second hand VHS tape in pawn shops later on, though.

Ghost, just last year. I still have a working VCR and still watch movies that are only available on VHS.

A taped off TV copy of Hannibal several years ago. Only ended up watching about half an hour because the tape was so worn out that it was pretty much unwatchable.

David Hamilton's Laura. Not to be confused with the famous movie of the same name.

I have the same experience with Die Hard. I had recorded it off of USA or TNT onto a VHS tape and watched it all the time and always expect a commercial break after a few moments.

A few times a year - there's a huge backlog of films (foreign language especially) and documentaries that never have and never will make the leap to disc.

Just got this in the mail, just so I could complete the set by having the box to go with it (plus having a few extra tapes in case the others bust ain't too bad either).

Before this about some months ago I also bought a few other tapes from goodwill like Evil Dead, which I find makes the low budget qualities even more charming.

Probably 2013? I know that's very specific, but while I still loved at home, I had one of those 4:3 TVs with the adjoining VHS player in my bedroom. If I fancied watching a Blu-ray, I'd do it downstairs on my dad's 50" HD TV. Otherwise I'd watch a video or DVD in bed. Anyway, I finally bought my own HD TV in late 2013 and I remember Arrow's release of The Texas Chainsaw Massacre Part 2 being the first BD I watched on it. I don't think I've watched any videos since.

Funny topic. Must have been some Blockbuster rental in late 1998 or early 1999. In 2000 I moved and threw away all of my tapes and the VCR. Haven't watched any VHS since. Thank god that awful format is gone. I still have a few Laserdiscs though, but unfortunately my player gave up the ghost a few years ago.

It was 30+ years ago - I can't remember. I switched from VHS to Laserdisc around 1988.
