Arrow Inglourious Basterds Prequel?!

Apparently Tarantino already has it half written:

Quote:
Quentin Tarantino’s Inglourious Basterds has yet to premiere at the Cannes Film Festival, but the director is already planning another film in his potential world war 2 franchise. Apparently Tarantino had shelves a huge subplot involving African-American soldiers stuck behind enemy lines, which he hopes to make that part of a prequel, that is, if the first film is popular.

Quote:
“I have a half-written prequel ready to go if this movie’s a smash,” Tarantino tells the New York Times .
Of course, Tarantino is infamous for talking about projects and ideas that never come to be anything more than just that. You might remember the Pulp Fiction / Reservoir Dogs prequel/sequel The Vega Brothers, and the potential sequels to Kill Bill. In fact, when Quentin announced he was directing Inglourious Basterds last year at Cannes, I really didn’t believe him and predicted it would never happen. Thankfully, I was wrong. So what are the chances that we’ll see a Basterds prequel? I’m not quite sure.

Also of note, Tarantino assured the Times that Basterds “will be in the original category at the Oscars.” Wow, it’s as if Babe Ruth pointed to center field before nailing one home. You have to admire someone with that much confidence.

Hard to get excited about a potential prequel without seeing the first movie. But anyway, I can't wait to see the first one. Here's hoping it justifies the follow up.

As for the "original category at the Oscars" thing, I think he was partly pointing out that this really isn't a remake of the old similarly-titled movie like everyone thought it was. It's an original work (well, full of homages and references to other films, no doubt. It's what Tarantino does.).

Its nice to see he is passionate about the movie and a prequel. He must be hoping that this grosses more than Grindhouse which we all should hope for because it was sad that that movie did not do too well. Anywho I am still awaiting this movie to come out!

In the Times' article, it is suggested that the prequel could be dealing with the shelved "Basterds" subplot. "Once the Basterds get through with Europe, they could go to the South and do it to the Kluxers in the '50s. That's another story you could tell," the publication quotes the filmmaker, before pointing out on the supposed plot. "Not to mention a shelved subplot about African-American soldiers stuck behind enemy lines."
Apparently Tarantino is the new racial injustice activist for the entire world, lol. But anyways Tarantino fans would love for Basterds to be a hit, but really he doesn't need one. His movies will still get made with fantastic casts, because whether or not they are a draw, people love his style and his insane dialogue, look at the numbers for Grindhouse and than look at this follow up. The casting is nearly perfect, but regardless of how this does B.O. wise his next movie will be just as big, and I personally would love another war movie, just as long as it isn't like the Vega Brothers, or 5 years away.

I'm taking this with a grain of salt, considering he also has mentioned a prequel and sequel to Kill Bill, and also the Vega Brothers, but none of those are happening any time soon. But then again, I didn't think IB was going to ever be made so who knows. And you know he's gonna have Sam Jackson in it, so it'll be good. I told my wife, what am I going to look forward to after IB is released? Well it looks like IB2, lol.
