how is your ps3 (assuming it is a a ps3) connected to your network? straight thru a modem? wirelessly or thru a router. it could be a number of things.

is your network protected with a wep key?
did you set the ssid correctly?

are you having the ps3 try to auto config the setup?
have you tried to manually enter the DNS Address?

What OS are you using? Go to command and try and ping 127.0.0.1 that is a loopback ip address. Also, try from the command line ipconfig/release and then ipconfig/renew. Or just an ipconfig to see if your getting a ip address.

If it is through your Ps3 check the settings in your router.

ok do the simple things first...i know they sound crazy and i am not being a smart ass!

1. check the cable - make sure they are all plugged in

2.check the lights on the front of the modem - any of them out?

3.still not working? unplug the modem wait 30 seconds or so then plug it back in...it might just need to be reset

4. from the start menu in vista click on run, then type cmd that will bring up a dos prompt. from there type ipconfig/all you will be able to see if you at least have a connection. if you do see all the ip addressed. write them down. you will need the ip address, default gate way and DNS server addresses

5.have you run the wizard on the ps3 to try and connect to the modem? under system settings i believe. if you have and you still are having no luck, go back to system settings on the ps3 and enter the numbers manually.

6.do you have a secured network?

subnetmask is usually an address that looks like this

255.255.255.x

default gateway is normally an address that looks like this

192.168.1.x

do you have a router anywhere in your setup? i am trying to picture your setup. the pc you are using is running from the same modem as the one connected to the ps3 correct? if so then it is not an issue with the internet feed as your comp is working. it could be that the ps3 does not know your network address, which would be fixed when the wizard on the ps3 is run.

if you do have a secured network that will block the ps3 from accessing the modem for the feed. if you have a home network, did you set a password when you set it up? a secured network is basically a password protected network that only lets devices that know the password connect to it. so if you set a password and have not plugged that password into the ps3 it will not be able to connect to the net.

ya, like i just unplug the ethernet from my pc and connect to my ps3, so the internet itself shouldnt be the problem

i have a password for my internet, what should i do so that the ps3 can connect to it?

ok well at leats you know it is not the internet feed. so from here. connect the ethernet cable to the ps3, power it on and go to settings. from there try the following

1.select internet connection settings (wired)

2.Select [Yes] when a confirmation screen is displayed stating that you will be disconnected from the Internet.

3.Select [Easy]. additional settings for PPPoE, proxy server or IP address may be required. ignore that the first time if not working after the following steps, let me know and i will help you locate them

4.Save your settings

5.Test the connection. If you select [Test Connection], the system will attempt to connect to the Internet.

6.Confirm the connection test results. If a successful connection has been made, information on the network will be displayed .

If the connection fails, follow the on-screen instructions to check your settings

give that a try and see what happens

you need a static IP address, go to your computer, go to run, type cmd, then type ipconfig/all, everything listed should put in exactly the same on your PS3. Then go back to the IP address and change the last number by 1.

So 170.34.45.293 would change to 170.34.45.294

You should be good to go, also power cycling might work, but that was already stated.

hey guys...still having trouble getting on the net...when running the wizard it is successful in obtaining the IP address but i believe the "connection test" or whatever fails...i believe my internet is secured with a password...how would i enter it into my ps3?

EDIT: actually i dont believe its the secured network thats the problem because under my ISP properties it says "allow unsecured password" ...so now im lost

When you go to wireless on the network setup of your PS3 then choose scan and then pick your wireless network and then enter the password.

if you havn't figured it out yet you have to reset your modem.

Make sure everything is turned off-

Unplug your modem, wait about 5 seconds, plug it back in.

Let it reboot for about 20-30 seconds

Start up whatever system you're trying to use to get on the internet and than Vualah! You're online.

Keep in mind that you have to do this everytime you switch from lets say your computer to your playstation or vise versa.

EDIT: If you're using a router you will have to reset both your router and modem. you unplug both your modem and router, reboot your MODEM first and than your router second.
