Default Banning.

Hi all. I was recently banned for a month. The message I saw when I logged into Blu-ray.com read as follows:

"You have been banned for the following reason:
threadcrapping, trolling, repeatedly insulting members"

I do not dispute that I deserved the ban, and I apologize to whoever I offended with my jerky behavior. A few members come to mind, and I am sure they were justified in reporting me.

My question is: in addition to the reasons for bannings/suspensions (like the reason quoted above), is there any way to provide a banned/suspended member with a link to examples of the infractions that lead to such a banning/suspension?

I don't know if that's a possibility; just thought it might clear up some confusion for members like me who try to be decent, contributing members, but who fall short.

Thanks.

When I first got banned I thought "Well, fine, there's a billion sites out there, I can go be a jerk at those sites!"

Then I realized I like this place, so I'd try to figure out ways to not get the boot again. I didn't think what I was doing was boot-worthy, and apparently it was. I'd be an idiot not to ask for clarification if I want to keep hanging out with you fine people.

If/when I got the boot, I'd also like to know why, specifically why - which post did me in? How else do you avoid a repeat offense? But maybe it'd cause too much extra work for the mods, I don't know.

That is true, but I think "threadcrapping" and "trolling" (whatever they mean) are subjective.

Let me give you some words of wisdom - If you wouldn't say it to someone in real life, don't say it here. Then again, there are people who defy the laws of logic daily.

Now if I could only heed my own advice - Oh and they don't give any specific reasons. I don't think they will start either.

Threadcrapping and/or trolling basically mean replying just to attack the point of a thread and add nothing to it. Easily avoidable, for most people.

And in all seriousness.... I think it also often has to do with some mods' personal feelings towards some members. Some members can get away with near murder.... and others can get smacked for next to nothing.

I think I offended one; not that my actions still didn't deserve a ban.

I can't speak for the moderators here but personal feelings shouldn't figure into moderator decisions. One has to be able to separate personal feelings from forum feelings or one shouldn't be a moderator. At least that's the way I feel.

Your best bet is to read over you last dozen or so postings before you were banned. I'm sure you'll see what you were doing both wrong and right in them, then focus on the right part.

You may have been reported a number of times over say a month (not by those you offended but others casually reading a thread) leading to your ban so it would of made it an easy decision by the moderation team to hand out the 30 day ban.

Funny that you get banned for threadcrapping yet others can threadcrap all they want. The Dark Knight threadcrapping is getting rediculous.

exactly. i very much doubt it was any one or two comments you had, it sounds like there were many over an extended period of time. its why you see some members getting away with murder still. everyone is dealt with eventually.

Thousands of posts each and every single day...handfull of mods...

kinda hard to be equal and/or catch everything.

(that's what the 'report' feature is to be used for)
