Hollywood, it is said cannot come up with an original idea. What films would you like to see remade, rebooted, have a sequel or just leave alone.
Cocoon - remade Stargate - reboot Independence day - sequel To kill a mocking bird - leave alone please. |

A lot of people have been harping on remakes and reboots lately, but if you think about it, it really isn't different than what we have done throughout time. Stories get passed on from generation to generation. This is essentially what you are seeing now in film. The only difference is with film it is a lot easier to hate because the original reference material is generally readily available. Back in the day when a story was retold around a fire and a little twist was put on it by the teller no one was the wiser.
Of course the goal should be more original material, but the reality the rehashing of old stories by new people isn't a new trend. |

My main problem with remakes, reboots etc, is that when there is a great story that I would like to see be continued and they do a crappy job of it, it's an extreme let down to my desire to get drawn back into the world that was previously created.
I have no problem with remakes, reboots etc in general, because they don't effect the quality of the earlier piece of work that I enjoyed. |

At least they are sort of rebooting the Stargate TV series. The new Stargate Universe looks much darker and serious which I am totally looking forward to.
As for my selections... REMAKE: The Magnificent Seven REBOOT: Spawn SEQUEL: Tron (which is on the way!!! been waiting forever for this one) LEAVE: The Crow (the first one was awesome, stop making direct-to-video sequels that suck) -papaholmz |

Personally I love when Hollywood redoes movies. Why? Because it is a different interpetition of a story. That is what makes man creative. People get too bent out of shape of movies. If a movie is that scared, then I don't what to tell you. I love the Lord of The Rings movies. I f they were to remake them I would watch the trailer then decide. I was mad they wanted to remake Slap Shot. A classic movie in my opinion. I thought about it and just shook it off. Who knows, it could be good or it may not. Other then that my life will go on and I will still have the original to love and cherrish.
You don't see people complain when a high school does a Shakespeare play, do you? Last edited by thedarkangel1975; 05-08-2009 at 02:57 PM. |

As I've said on previous "remake" threads, these remakes, sequels, etc. all seem to be a trend in most forms of movies and video games these days. It's not that they've run out of original ideas, it's more so that they are safer bets. Both are becoming more and more expensive to produce, and when you invest all that money on a project, there's more dependency on making a profit. So in turn, you go with what you know because of the fanbase that exists.
I don't like it though how most of the big movies these days always end with room for a sequel. Maybe it's just me, but sometimes I like it when movies just come up and bring closing to the whole story. I'm looking at you SAW movies. |

REMAKE: Nothing. If it sucked the first time, let it suck forever. Vice versa.
REBOOT: Spider-Man. I've been severely underwhelmed ever since the first movie. I KNOW this franchise can be done much better. SEQUEL: I'd give anything to have Star Wars 7-9, but only....ONLY....if Lucas hands the directorial reins over to a young visionary with a love for the franchise who will not submit to the wishes of an egomaniacal madman in love with dead presidents. So I know this will never happen. Yeah. LEAVE: Lord Of The Rings. It's fine as it is. |
