Default Review of Panasonic's DMR-BS850 UK stand-alone BR recorder.

When, oh when will a stand-alone BR recorder like this be released in the US??

Interesting the article notes that the next in line for a stand-alone BR recorder is Germany. Not that I want to take away your thunder, Germany, as I envy all of you lucky potential stand-alone BR recorder owners over there, but come on. Lets have one of these in the US. Enough of the stalling already.

I guess they want to build up anticipation so that people like me will run out and buy the first one on the US market.

Well, if you want a stand-alone BD recorder like the Panasonic (including HD-streaming, by the way), you can buy THIS ONE in the USA at:
- Power Holdings
- Hdplex
- A Digital Store
- E2 Industries
- JVB Digital

Interesting device. The Panny, though, at least has a FireWire input (I'd rather see an HDMI input). The HD Dune has no analog or digital inputs. Though it does look like you might be able to record to BR off of the internal hard drive. I am sure it goes without saying, but with no means to capture from even the analog inputs, I have to wonder how successful this unit will be.

Thanks for pointing it out. I'll have to keep an eye on this. Barring a stand-alone BR recorder from one of the major players in the US, the other option is to build my own HTPC - though I am not in favor of this approach unless done without fans. At least I could put in a Black Magic Intensity HDMI capture board.
